North is our favorite!. This is our go to place in Denver. We have never had a bad meal here.
Lack of Professionalism.
My husband and I had a wonderful dinner at North to celebrate his birthday. After dinner we meet up with friends to have a few drinks at the bar. The bar staff was extremely rude -- when asked to present identification they did not want to serve my husband because he license expire (on his 34 birthday). We proceeded to advise the bartender that we just had dinner along with wine and cocktails. After speaking with her manager, she came back and said she could serve him as long as we told her who our server was. We felt extremely uncomfortable and thought it was a very inappropriate question to ask a customer. The situation became tense and the group left North and had drinks at the JW Marriott. The kicker is that our table was not ready when we arrived at North so we got a cocktail at the bar ...who did not ask for identification.
Pros: great food, great atmosphere
Cons: unprofessional bartender and management
NoRTH has gone SOUTH.
Why is it that restaurants have such a hard time hiring good wait staff? NoRTH has been hiring 'hipsters' with bad attitudes and terrible knowledge of food. Why spend your hard-earned money at a place that's going to give you the cold-shoulder and a "better-than-you" attitude? The last time we ate here, our waitress acted like she hated waiting tables. Rude and outright pathetic.
How sad to see this establishment go down the tubes.
HINT: Happy hour is still worth it. The bar staff is great. Go to the bar instead!
Adorable Setting, Wonderful Modern Italian Cuisine. This modern restaurant takes true Italian cooking to a whole new level. The dish I ordered was phenominal, Goat Cheese, Date, and Proscuttio pizza. It was delicious and a truly unique flavor combination.
Good, not great. Overall a good experience, but the food was not at all exceptional.
poor management. My wife and I went into North in Cherry Creek a few nights ago, expecting a nice dinner however it wasn't so nice. We had excellent service our server and staff were prompt and kept our table well maintained however, the food was awlful, highly over salted which leads me to believe that the true taste is being disguised. Our server prompltly had a manager come who introduced himself as Tyson, his overall attitude was extremly pompous and he seemed irritiated with our complaints.
Osso Buco = knock your socks off.
It was 7:30pm on a Friday (tonight, actually). My husband and I had been running errands all day and were in need of sustenance. We first thought "Cherry Cricket" (because of their amazing burgers, and proximity to our location) but the wait was 40 minutes. Deciding to continue to stroll down the street, we ducked in to HAPA Sushi. The wait was 45-50 minutes. Screw that. We were about to leave Cherry Creek North altogether when we saw "NoRTH".. and decided, "what the hell?" and strolled on in.
We were seated immediately at a long bar, across from each other. The ambiance was pleasant without pretentiousness, we were close to the kitchen to observe the action, and were completely taken with Alison, our server. She was friendly, quick to offer suggestions (that were SPOT on) and was even (pay attention, all you waitstaff out there - I was one once myself, you know).. HONEST. She steered us away from dishes she felt we would not enjoy as much, and aided in some of the better food/wine pairings we have had in Denver in the last 6 months.
The Super Tuscan (Gaja) is delicious.. Osso Buco to DIE for.. Herb Crusted Pork was good, but needed a tad of salt. We had a delightful champagne with the Nutella Chocolate Cake - holy smokes. That's all I gotta say.
Bravo, North.
Bravo, Alison.
We WILL be back!!
Great restaurant & service, but beware the "Ex-Lax Fish". I originally rated this restaurant as four stars on another review site. The service was good and the food was tasty and elegantly prepared. I decided to do another review after researching the fish I ate there, which is called Escolar. Both myself and my date were slightly queasy after eating there for her birthday dinner a few weeks ago, but thought it was due to eating too much of the fried zucchini appetizer. According to several sites on the internet, Escolar is known as the "Ex-Lax Fish" because of its high content of indigestible wax esters, which cause varying amounts of digestive system discomfort. This has prompted the nations of Japan and Italy to ban the Escolar. I wish that restaurants like North would do the same. ~$24 a plate for a fish which is a known problem is outrageous.
Great food and a fun atmosphere. I first went here for 5280 week two years ago and now go often. The food is excellent, one of the best chicken parm dishes I've ever had, and the atmosphere is trendy. Good wine list. Fun part of town.
Hip atmosphere but food can be improved. We went to North on a weekday night and didn't have to wait for a table since it was still early. This place gets really packed though, even on weekday nights by 7 pm or so. Very nice for people watching, the decor is hip and fun, the music is pleasant and not overly loud. The service could have been better - the waiter just didn't really seem interested in us since we weren't ordering expensive drinks, even though we spent a significant amount on dinner itself. The prices are a bit high, and the food could be better. Their fish, however, is excellent. The appetizers/salads could be improved. The bread was dry. The presentation of the food is nice, but we were overall unimpressed with the rest. This is more of a dress up/drinks kind of place and it would be great for that, especially sitting out on the patio in the summer. The location is great but parking is difficult. The restaurant offers valet parking.
