Extraordinary creative menu, 5 star service paired with The best Wine List in Denver. We were Black Pearl "virgins" until recently, but this place is hands down a true "hidden treasure" of Denver. Best culinary expirience Ive enjoyed in a long time. We relaxed on the patio all night, and had 5 course meal on gorgeous cement table with all-natural gas burning fire pit in center. Started off with East Coast Island Creek Oysters shucked to order, New England Clam Chowda. Shared a plate of 6 different cheeses with a bottle of Van Duzer Pinot noir Rose, actually a few bottles. But the highlight of my night was the Whole Crispy Fish. a Salt Water Striped Bass served head and tail on the bone. Classic Dish, most places seemed to have forgotten about, but in my opinion one of the best ways to eat fish. Fresh, Fried, and off the Bone. That was served with a Lemon Grass BBq sauce and grlled scallions. Friends had beef tenderloin and Duck Confit entrees...Loved everything ! Thank you staff at the Black Pearl!!!!
Black Pearl Patio Dining was "off the hook". Black Pearl is my new favorite restaraunt, Chef Huggards cuisine served on their gorgeous patio is a wonderful date destination. Cement Tables with all natural gas powered fire pit are beautiful. Wine List was amazing, Exrtremely well-done and creative menus, ans excellent service. Took a second date to dinner to Black Pearl a few weeks ago, she loved the restaraunt, and enviornment in which it created. Very intimate, elegant, but casual and friendly at the same time. It was awesome. I enjoyed a dozen fresh shucked kummimoto oysters and Seared Ahi Tuna (rare of course) "Oscar style" served with 3 crab pastry puff, hollandaise, and aparagus. Along with an individually numbered, stellar bottle of Margerum Sav Blanc. Lady enjoyed the fresh oysters, a grilled romaine salad and ordered Mussels topped with Fresh cut truffle frites. We were both very impressed. Fantastic cuisine, great wine list, and beautiful patio dining.
A menu where the ingredients and skill of the Executive Chef speak for themselves, on every plate!!!!!!!!!. Highly reccomend The Black Pearl Restaurant to everyone in CO, but especially in Wash Park/ Cherry Creek area....very close. I have been dining at this establishment for over a year, and can not get enough. The restaurant offers a foerever changing menu featuring local, fresh,organic, and sustainably grown products and ingredients. I had the most amazing grilled pork tenderloin with heirloom tomatoe, avocado, salad with fresh coconut. It was very simple, but like I said," The ingredients really do speak for themselves"... Not to mention, hands down THE BEST Wine List in Denver, oysters shucked to order, and rockafeller (my personal favorite) Menu is moderately priced but encourages guests to be creative and course meals however we feel. Kudos again to Exec Chef Sean Huggard and Sommielier Mr. Steve Whited! Extremely Proud to have you guys in the Denver/Wash Park community!!!!

Oh my god, I have to give alot of credit to the black pearl restaraunt. I live two blocks away, and place has become my favorite spot on S. Pearl. My roomates and i frequently visit the Black Pearl for fabulous martinis, appetizers, entrees, and desserts. My favorite would have to be boring salad, followed by seared duck breast with warm frisee salad. Incredible flavor combinations, Chef Huggard has done south Pearl street justice with simple ingredients, and very creative cuisine. We enjoyed a bottle of Bandol Rose'. Perfect pairing with spring weather around the corner, and any of Chef Huggard's cuisine. Vegeatrian options are brilliantly done, and BP carries out complete dining expirence. Service very hospitable, goes extra mile fo all guests, and food and wine list to match. Highly reccomended, especially for all Wash/Platte Park residents. Black Pearl also recieved patio of the year in Summer 2007, and is ready for another successful season!!! FYI- wonderful happy hour every day 4-6, 1/2 off drinks and oysters shucked to order. Amazing Patio, Food and Wine List!!!!!!!! Cheers to Executive Chef Huggard and Sommilier Mr. Steve Whited!!!!!. Took girlfriend of 1 1/2 years for patio hopping in Wash. Park and found wonderful spot near Sushi Den between Florida and Iowa on S. Pearl street. We were greeted with very personable and friendly service. Patio was beautiful, very well done and perfect for low key, relaxing wed. afternoon. The Food was incredible, we had a dozen west coast oysters, and a spicy sushi grade tuna and pear appetizers. For dinner we enjoyed grilled romaine caesar salads, I enjoyed a perfectly cooked coffee-rubbed ribeye, and the lady swears, "the best tasting crab cakes on the planet", and she is originally from Baltiomre, MD. We paired our delightful three course dinner with a bottle of Cakebread Chardonnay.....Great expirence will be back very soon, highly reccomend to those who enjoy "dining outside the box" (progressive new american cuisine) flavors work extremely well together. Chef Huggard (CIA-Hyde Park, NY) has done a marvelous job, created one of the best restaurants in Denver, glad we finally found the Black Pearl!!!!!!!! Great ambiance, and food to die for!!!. I took a date to black pearl last friday night and was absolutly blown away by every aspect of this restaurant. We started the evening with cocktails in the bar and was greeted with wonderful service from our bartender who was able to guide us through the exciting cocktail menu. After a drink or two we made our way into the stunningly cool and understated dining room, everything from the raw wood floors to the eclectic light fixtures and views of the kitchen were an absolute treat for the senses!!! The menu was simple, but very creative at the same time and our server was able to guide us through and suggest a great bottle of wine as well. The room filled up quickly, and while black pearl is a little noisy it just lends to the exciting enviroment that ensconses you the second you walk through the doors. Not only will I be back again in the very near future, I will be passing along the word about this hidden treasure!!!!
No Thanks. After waiting too long for a table at a nearby Sushi restaurant my friends and I headed back to our vehicle and saw what looked like a cool place (the Black Pearl)... since the place looked cool, we figured the food had to be good... right? Total disappointment... we spent way too much money on food that was trying to be cool... but honestly sucked. I don't understand how this place stays open for business.
Pretentious !!!. My wife and I and two good friends who live in that neighborhood, had dinner at BP on Friday last. While the ambiance was pleasant, I have to say, that the overall impression of the food -the starters, the main course and the dessert was less than stellar, both in terms of preparation and quantity. There were certainly moments of joy like the chili calamari and the selection of breads. The cheese selection, although exquisite, was so deprived of portion, that it gives one the impression that the intent, somewhat cynical, is to solely maximize revenue as opposed to providing an exhilarating dining experience. Coming to my main issue, the Main course. The portions were again parsimonious and pretentiously light. BTY, I'm neither a proponent of the obscenely full-portioned "platter", which seems to be the current fad, although there seems to be a move towards moderation of late. What was particularly disappointing was the lack of a starch or vegetable with the main course, and instead a poor apology for one in the form of a grilled grape fruit slice. The necessity to order the vegetable separately again smacks of cheap profiteering. Surely, the patron should be offered both options, with the Main course or separately. Incidentally, the prawns need an extra washing as they were gritty. Lastly, it was unfortunate that our evening was cut short, as we had to, in not so subtle a manner, make way for a larger party. While the place has potential, Michelin star it certainly is not. If the Raison-de-etre is to purely make money, then clearly a better strategy should be put in place as opposed to a poor excuse for fine dining, which is unfortunately what it is today.
Noisy but good service. I came here on a Saturday night with a group of six people. Service was very good. I ordered the calamari appetizer which was good, but was not the traditional deep-fried calamari dish; I probably wouldn't order it again. For my entree I ordered the scallops, which were very delicious but not very filling--they provide six scallops. Entrees do not come with side dishes--you must order a la carte. I ordered the creamed spinach side dish, which was fantastic. Major downside to this restaurant is the noise level. It's a loft style restaurant with vaulted ceilings and exposed pipework. Conversations echo and the place becomes almost unbearably noisy. We had to shout at each other to be heard at our own table.
Great food, great atmosphere.
Went to Black Pearl last weekend for the first time since they changed the menu format and was once again thrilled with the food (and everything else)! You'll find things from the old menu like the incredible mac n cheese and the excellent calamari, but now they have gone family style with entrees and sides to share. We had the pork shank with mole (described as raison and chocolate, which might put some people off?) and it was tender and delicious with a depth of flavor to the mole that I can't do justice describing with words. The fennel and onion confit was out of this world, and the other sides we tried were nearly as good! The service was excellent as I've come to expect (though admittedly, some servers are better than others) and overall it was a perfect evening.
The only suggestion I could make to improve BP is to moderate the wine list a bit. It's a particularly impressive list and there are uncommon small batch and organic wines, all of which I like, but there are few if any choices that will leave you with any cash in your wallet. I'm not suggesting they put sub par wines on the list, but a selection of $25-40 wines would be most welcome. Also, with the family style menu, it would be nice to see a few magnums on the list, too for when you're in with a crowd. Despite the expense of the list, we'll be back...and soon!
