I am a BBQ lover from TX and have sampled some of the best and most famous BBQ joints in the nation including:
Salt Lick in Austin, TX
Stubb's in Lubbock, TX
the original Sonny Bryant's in Dallas, TX
Fiorella's in Kansas City
Rudy's (seemingly everywhere)
Full Moon in Hoover, AL
...and many, many, many more. I wandered into Bono's in Denver having never heard of the joint - just looking for a place to eat. WOW, was I impressed. Their meats are on par with any I have tasted. Ribs were OUTSTANDING, and the hot sausage was particularly good as well. Turkey was as moist and flavorful. Kudos to them for serving the ribs 'dry style'. Most placed douse them in a sticky sauce before it gets to you, but I prefer to let the flavor speak for itself for at least a few bites before applying sauce.
Slaw was very tasty, and the tea was fresh brewed. I preferred their 'original' sauce to the sweeter/hotter alternatives - it was tangy and fairly unique, the only sauce it reminded me of is what they serve at Salt Lick.
A few criticisms: the pecan pie was so bad they should take it off the menu. My waitress did suggest the bananna pudding as awesome, but I didn't listen. Fries were not bad, but kind of generic tasting - like they came from a school cafeteria. Go for the homemade sides, which were delicious, instead.
Overall, gotta say this was one of the best places I've been. They could serve their meats alongside any of the other joints and be proud.
Best BBQ ANYWHERE!!!.
I found Bono's by accident while looking for some other restaurant in Denver. We decided BBQ sounded good and went on in. IT WAS GOOD! I live 60 miles away- in Colorado Springs- and have been back to Bono's over the last two years at least once every other month. The meat is smoked completely through- as it should be- over a pit. They do serve it without sauce but duh! That is because everyone likes a different sauce- and there are 4 to choose from at your table. I always mix sweet & tangy with the smoky red sauce. Yum! They have really great sweet tea, and on the appetizer menu- the corn nuggets are to die for! They also serve fried okra, which we have a very hard time finding up here in Colorado. I married an Oklahoma boy, and he swears by this place. We have tried many "BBQ" places in the Springs (I use the quotations because most gloat about thier sauces but don't even smoke thier meat) but they have all come up short. One, called Famous Dave's, is the best in the Springs, but still no Bono's. The staff is friendly and not too attentive- meaning they don't hover over us but we still get the attention we need. I have to tell you- we are going to Lake Michigan for vacation and found out there is a Bono's in Allendale, MI. We will be stopping for lunch after we swim!! Try this place out if you love real, smoky BBQ. You will not be disappointed!
Best Southern BBQ.
Hands down - the best place ever! Moist, smoked meats, friendly service, real sweet tea!!!! Bono's is the oldest BBQ restaurant in Jacksonville, FL and the best ever. They opened here more than a year ago, and it has been a great treat!!
