Atrocious customer service. I am currently planning a wedding and my mother and uncle are celiac. I contracted with another bakery (not Deby's) to provide two wedding cakes - one wheat and one gluten free (GF). The bakery backed out of the GF cake about three weeks before the wedding, saying they couldn't guarantee there would be no cross-contamination, and recommended Deby's as a completely GF bakery. I was referred to Monica, the owner.

I called Deby's and Dave answered the phone. I asked to speak to Monica and explained I needed a GF cake for a wedding on short notice. He told me he was the correct person to speak to and we agreed he would deliver a cake sample to me the following week. The cake sample was never delivered and when I called to follow up, I spoke to Monica, who told me Dave was out ill. I requested he contact me and Monica said he would call me the following day.

It's now a week later and I have received no follow up. My fiance called Monica today and told her we are very disappointed and will obviously not be using Dave's services. Monica then informed him that Dave operates an independent business and only rents space in her kitchen. She stated she doesn't even accept wedding cake orders because she doesn't decorate cakes. Monica became extremely defensive and insisted Dave is completely separate from her business, even using a different phone number.

The first two times I spoke to Dave and Monica neither of them gave me any reason to believe he was an independent contractor. I assumed when I called Deby's and Dave answered the phone that he was an employee. I assumed that when Monica said she would have him call me, she was his supervisor. I have wasted over a week trying to communicate with Deby's when it is now obvious that neither Dave nor Monica are willing or able follow up with potential customers or respond to their needs. Deby's may make good food (I wouldn't know), but they don't know how to run a business.
