Prime 121 a good reason NOT to go to Cherry Creek. – I was invited to Prime about a year ago when they first opened and had a terrible experience. It was so bad I actually remember my waiter's name, Nate. He was so rude we felt uncomfortable every time we asked for something, which was a lot because are drinks came out wrong and they weren't very good, we never got water refills, we were missing sides and utensils and the staff were all huddled in the back standing around. The food was disappointing the desert tray (we had to ask for because Nate gave us our bill without asking if we wanted coffee or dessert) looked disgusting. It was old and dry. At the end of all that we were given a bill upwards of $400. I felt very violated. I went home and wrote up a terrible review at the time, but decided not to send it. I decided to let them get through their growing pains and give them the benefit of a doubt.
A year later we decided to give them another try. I liked the ambiance and the fact that they had opened one of the walls to the outside so they now have a patio, and they have music. These were the only changes. The food was still sub-par and the service was a joke. I won't even go into it because our server was actually very sweet but totally incompetent. The owner Scott was prancing around the restaurant hopping from table to table feigning interest in his guest. So fake. When he made his way to our table we all looked away. If I even thought this restaurant had a bit of hope I would have been thrilled to offer some constructive criticism. But the truth is watching this restaurant fail is truly painful. You want to step in and say DUH?Great food plus exceptional service plus making the customer feel welcomed equals success. You already have location and ambience. It's not brain surgery. How bad of a business person do you have to be to not get it?
Oh well, we were rooting for the underdog but I'm taking my $400 and I'll see you at Elway's or Capital Grill.
really good steak – great service and great food with awesome selections of food. The steak is cooked perfectly and the beer and wine that accompany it is superb.
Lobster Salad, swank atmosphere and this would be a great date spot! Nice new option! – We took clients on a Friday night and enjoyed the warm ambiance. No snooty wait staff?.just quiet efficient service from our WAITER. If you want an expensive bottle of wine rammed down your throat go someplace else. Prime 121 seems to have more pure motivations. For example they want you to enjoy the wine, food and return.
I strongly recommend the lobster salad! Generous portions of lobster with the freshest greens! Heavenly! The manager Scott visited our table and sincerely asked how we were doing. I loathe the ceremonial pass by of a manager who really doesn?t? give a rip. Scott was sincerely asking us and spoke to us not at us. This type of management makes a difference. We will return. It would be great for a business meeting or romantic date because it?s swank but you can hear the conversation.
The down side is the second string servers really fell flat. For example the persons responsible for bringing coffee, removing dishes and tending to our ancillary needs. They were grouped together in the back gossiping. We had to practically beg for coffee and service at the end of our meal. Anytime we spend $400+ at a restaurant I expect some focus. We didn?t appreciate stone cold coffee refills coffee after I flagged down the man. Yes I am brutal, I want the waiter to be supported and the entire team needs to pay attention to us.
I would still return. The good far out weighed the end of meal issue. Try it and be more vocal than I was. We had clients and I had to restrain myself. It was a nice change of pace.
Not worth the price, average at best! – I went to Prime 121 last night with my husband and his boss, we were all disappointed with the experience.
To start with, my husband's boss received a menu with food squished inside the menu, the waiter apologized but did not get him another menu. (This was a Sunday night and the restaurant was not busy, there were only about 5-6 tables occupied).
Our appetizers arrived but serving utensils were not with them, we had to request them. The crab cakes were pretty good but not stellar and the calamari was below average, not recommended. Our steaks and side-orders arrived, nothing was impressive. All 3 of us ordered different steaks, they did not taste like they were seasoned, they were AVERAGE at best, the side items, which included the fried-green tomatoes that our waiter raved about, mushrooms and mashed potatoes were all very bland.
Nothing about our experience was above average, I would definitely not recommend paying the price for the quality of the food.
Hate the owner! – I will have to say...when we came in we were noticed. However, the owner and I didn't seem to get on the right note..he past our table and said "oooh don't you just want to have sit there and watch it?' WHAT WAS THAT? I don't understand...it really made know since to me at all. I don't know if it came out wrong...or that he just didn't know what to say to us. BUT LISTEN HERE...ask for PETER! He is the best server there. He knows what you need before you can even think about it...VERY PROFESSIONAL!!! Enjoy the food because their chef Brant slaves over the grill for you. He is quite a character! Sit back..and as long as you follow my advise...you will be golden.
worth a try, but avoid on busy nights – We ate here on New Years eve. They were obviously not prepared for the amount of traffic. For starters, we were ignored at the host stand while some one sat there and answered phone call after phone call without so much as a glance in our direction. Once we were greeted it was another 10mins before they sat us (we had reservations). Once seated it took 20 mins for our server to come over. We put in our order right away and it took 1.5 hrs to get our food!! Our server was very nice and was obviously embarrased by the kitchen's performance. However, management never visited our table to apologise. In general the impression was that the service is very unprofessional. The food was good, the bree and champaign soup was wonderful. We both had surf and turf for dinner and while the food was good, our steaks were not cooked as ordered. At that point, there was no way we were going to wait while we sent it back to the kitchen!
Prime cuts and a clubby dining room lure natty carnivores to this sleek Cherry Creek steakery. – In Short
The quintessential steakhouse, this restaurant features red leather booths, crisp, white linens topping the tables and male-bonding groups touting high-rolling expense accounts. The kitchen dishes out USDA Prime-grade hunks of beef in all their juice-dribbling glory, coupled with a slew of starters, salads and sides like jumbo shrimp cocktail, fried oysters, grilled lobster salad and creamed spinach. Private dining rooms are available for executive meetings, rehearsal dinners and other events.
We LOVE it!! The food is sooooo good! – My friends and I are so glad that Prime 121 opened in Cherry Creek. We like to meet there for Happy Hour and have the "Sliders". We've had dinner there twice and both times the food and service were exceptional. The steak I had was to die for. My girlfriends shared a lobster and could not stop raving about it. I would go there for the food alone, but the atmosphere is warm and inviting too.
Do yourself a favor, and go somewhere else... – All six in our party on a Sunday night rated this restarurant a bust and will not go back. Sub-par service - while the server was pleasant, she was decidedly unprofessional and started clearing settings while others in our party were still eating. She then asked if we wanted to see the dessert tray before we'd even finished our entree(s). We were missing utensils for almost every course of the meal, and had to continually ask for them. For a cheap steak place, that type of service might be acceptable, but for a high-end steakhouse, definitely not so. Plus, the steaks weren't great, and the side dishes were just okay. There are too many other (really good) steakhouses in Denver to waste your hard-earned money at Prime 121.
Great steak – I ate here this weekend....wow! I had the filet and a house salad. Get a reservation and you will be pleased.
