5280 disappontment. Il posto started off to a good start for us coming here for the first time to try out the 5280 restaurant week. The appetizer I had was the cockles - in a very tasty sauce, very well prepared.. Then it started to go downhill, it took a incredibly long time to receive our second course and when we got it, the pasta was not even cooked - it was hard and gooey. When one of us complained the waiter did not offer to do anything about it, he simply said, "we make it El Dente' ". This was more than el dente. The last course took even longer, which was strange since it's a small venue and there were several open tables. Also, the drinks were very expensive and nothing special. Needless to say for our large party, not one of us will be going back.
It's like being thrown a kiss from across the room from that one and only, love filled, lovely, lass that can absolutely captivate you. It's like tea and ambrosia teemed with fluttering butterflies swirling in the golden yellow sun-swept
mother-earth. It's the entry into the dramatic dreams of the ultimate romantics. The food is only part of this encounter with the epicurean adventure, far away from the mundane.
This is a taste of lightness, a scent of heaven sent only to those that understand. Hold out your hands, face up. RECEIVE, I SAY RECEIVE FROM THE VERY,VERY PRESENCE OF ANDREA. It's an experience, slow, very european, enjoyment par excellence. Let this place, this environ reach the very marrow of your romantic bones.
Charming service and an great dinner!. Went to Il Posto for dinner last nite and it was wonderful. The gnocchi was the best I have ever had. After a couple cocktails, we had a couple great bottles of Barbera with dinner. My friends and I tasted through a good portion of the menu, and were impressed with the quality of the produce, the execution, and the presentation of the dishes. We were even able to accomodate the vegetarian in the group without much diffuculty. Highly recommended, don't usually post reviews and comments, however wanted to share this experience with as many people as possible.
The Worst Experience. I just went to Il Posto with a friend for the first time tonight. The atmosphere was pretty cute, but right off the bat, it became clear to us that our server had a "difficult" personality. After putting in our food and drink orders, it took 15 minutes for me to get my glass of wine. About 1.5 hours later, I was finally served my entree. (To be fair, my friend ordered the wine paring, which likely slowed down the delivery of my food, but we still felt as if that was a long time to wait .) Long story long, towards the end of my meal, I found a hair in my plate. The server's reaction was, "Did you just find that?" There was no apology or any type of offer to help rectify the matter from her part. We were asked if we wanted to order dessert (as if we wanted to risk more hair in our food.) We were then promptly presented our check and there was no "comp" for our surprise finding in the food. Our bill was $134 and we were thoroughly disappointed with the entire experience. Avoid, avoid, avoid.
Great Place for Great Food!.
I really love the different choices every time I go. The menu changes all of the time although some favorites are usually available in some form or another.
If you like fresh ingredients prepared in unique ways this is the place for you. I really like the calamari appetizer and the gnocchi. All of the fish items I have had were great and my wife loved the halibut. Another great item is the hanger steak, very, very good.
I would highly recommend. Also, if you want to avoid crowds go at lunch time for a very special meal!
I love it!. I love Il Posto! One of the worst things about this place is that the chefs change the menu daily; which is one of the best things about the place. My favorite dish wasn't there the following visit, but I was lucky enough to have osso bucco on wednesday night, so all is good. Loved it!
Not the best.
Went here for the first time during Denver Restaurant week with a group of 7 people. As a vegetarian, I am used to sifting through menus to see what options are available to me. For the 5280 menu there was no vegetarian option available, but they substituted a pretty good salad for the first course. The 2nd course was not impressive as the risotto had little flavor and the noodles with sauce and brussel sprouts were just average. Service was strange.
After finishing our food and enjoying some wine, the bill was brought to us. Shortly after, they encouraged us to leave as others were waiting. Although they gave us an after dinner shot, we all agreed it was quite rude and it left a bad flavor in our mouths.
Overall, not too impressed with this place. For the price, it was not worth it.
Eh - not so good. Not great honestly. Nothing was memorable and everything was served cold - in other words didn't make it out to the table while it was still hot. Our server always seemed too busy and annoyed by our requests for more drinks. I just wouldn't recommend it.
Driven away by poor service. I was given a dinner at Il Posto for Christmas, in preparation of a trip to Italy - what a complete disappointment! For those looking to eat at this restaurant, be warned - reservations (even made a month in advance) mean the time from which you can expect to wait another hour for a table. We would have waited an additional 20-30 minutes, but more than 30 minutes is simply ridiculous. Not only did the astonishingly rude hostess seem rather put out at the fact that we were annoyed at having to wait so long, but she continued to patronizingly explain that the size of the restaurant was the reason for our having to wait ad infinitum for a table to open up. The real reason is simply poor management and an over-inflated sense of self-worth. We eventually had a lovely meal at Strings four blocks down 17th - a real recommendation if you plan on having a night out at Il Posto. If the attitude toward the food is as arrogant as the hostess, then I can understand people's disappointment in their meals as stated in other reviews - at Il Posto, the staff seem to think the customer is privileged to have an opportunity to enter their restaurant and should be grateful regardless of any additional difficulties incurred. Go anywhere else for decent service. Even an exceptional meal is not worth such a hassle.
Absolutely awful!. I was forced to give a rating but really wanted to rate this place with zero stars. Please, save your money if you're planning on a dinner at Il Posto. I'd read reviews of this place and thought we couldn't go wrong. I eat out frequently and was so disappointed with every aspect of my dining experience (especially considering we took foodies from out of town to dinner). How was I disappointed? Let me count the ways....1. Confusing menu 2. The worst potato gnocchi I've ever tasted (I've never had bad gnocchi but it tasted like overcooked cauliflower (as described by a dinner companion "dirty dishwater") 3. They overcooked the risotto (I sent it back and didn't order another dish) 4. All 3 scallops (for $24!) had SAND in them 4. When asked what kind of wine by the glass I'd like, I said a good Cabernet and was told "We don't have Cabernet by the glass." Really? Then why ask? 5. Some kind of grease fire in the open kitchen left the dining room full of smoke and our clothes and hair smelling like a fast food restaurant. At this point, the meal was so bad, the service so poor, the ambiance so uninviting, I just wanted some wine. And so I went home.
