Editorial Review for The Chocolate Bar – by Suzanne Wright
The Scene
A warm and inviting atmosphere--russet walls, dark woods, exposed brick and a gleaming case filled with chocolate--entice lingering at this low-key boîte and the staff don't mind at all. Servers are unabashedly enthusiastic and highly responsive; a slightly wrinkled nose brings a quick, cheerful fix. Sometimes you can catch a glimpse at the on-site chocolatier at work.
The Food
Light savories balance the sweets. The curried popcorn is genius snacking with a house-made limoncello cocktail or a watermelon cava spritzer. Georgia pecan soup with Vidalia onion is off-sweet and creamy, a fine foil to a charcuterie and cheese plate; try the fennel seed-flecked salami and the Roquefort Paillon with a glass of Windmill zinfandel. Desserts include strawberry shortcake or exotic bonbons such as white chocolate passion fruit, coconut-curry and basil ganache. The Buddha-shaped Lotus Sutra is filled with yerba mate, lemon, ginger and cardamom.

I absolutely love Chocolate Bar! It's the chocolate lover's delight! Absolutely best chocolate martini I've ever had. The service at the bar has always been exceptional. And they have a 73 (?) single year port that is to die for!
Pros: Mascarpone Whipped Cream!
Cons: Maybe a bit casual for a romantic evening?

After hearing so many great things about this place, I was thoroughly disappointed with my first visit. Definitely not worth the hype the local papers have been giving it since it opened. As mentioned in the other reviews, the wait staff was uninterested and inattentive, starting the evening off on a bad note. You wouldn’t expect this sort of service in any restaurant in downtown Decatur! The deserts were not all that they have been cracked up to be, and I left there feeling that I would have rather had a piece of the chocolate cake at Watershed down the street instead!
Pros: Candlelit tables on street
Cons: Underwhelming service, no parking, not enough value for cost
