I will NEVER order food from here
again. TERRIBLE service, even worse management.
While placing our orders, my partner asked if he could order half of one roll and half of another. The waiter says "no problem," takes our orders, and leaves. When he returns, the waiter brings two full rolls. Mistakes are understandable and forgivable, but when we confronted the waiter, he told us that they don't do half rolls and they could do two full orders and bring us both orders. Naturally, we tell him he should've told us that before placing our orders(which he didn't); however, the waiter didn't want to budge and he acted like it was our fault. When we confronted the manager on it, the manager said if we aren't satisfied we can just leave. Apparently they would rather throw away $50 worth of sushi than take back one incorrect order that THEY made a mistake on.
Long story short: We left and will never buy sushi from there again. Terrible service, stubborn and ignorant management, and overpriced food.
great neighborhood spot. I manage one of the best sushi restaurants in Denver. On my nights off, I frequently dine in or out at John Holly's on Downing. I started going here the first week that they opened. The manager and all the staff are extremely friendly. The fish is always fresh and their appetizers and entrees delicious. I am so disheartened to read some of these reviewers bash my neighborhood restaurant. They don't deserve it.
Worst, rudest, most sexist service EVER. I recently went to dinner with a friend. We are both female and middle aged. Her hair is long and blond. Mine is not - that is the only thing we can think of as a distinguishing feature. We were waited on by a youngish Asian man. He lavished all his attention on my friend, constantly touching her back or her shoulder. He pretty much ignored me. My friend had already finished her dinner, but I was still eating. Our waiter came up to her, patting her back, and tried to entice her to have desert. I told him to at least wait until I had finished eating and then come back. He looked at me like I was being out of line - not him. When I had finished my dinner, a different wait person came by to collect my plate. My friend was feeling very uncomfortable: 1) the waiter only paid attention to her, 2) he kept touching her back or shoulder, and 3) he was being very rude to me. One thing is certain: neither I, nor my friends, will EVER spend another dime in that place. In the future, my friends and I will prefer to go to restaurants where each and every person dining at the table is treated with the same - and appropriate - attention, courtesy, and respect!
The "Denny's" of Sushi. A friend I have eaten our way through a few sushi bars in the area and we're both fish cooks and make our own simple sushi at home. Although I can see where Holly's could be the right place if they we're only half full, we went at the rush hour and were sent to the overflow room that really lacks the ambiance. Although the service was accommodating the fellow was very quite but he nodded in agreement to almost all comments. The Sushi was B- quality. The tuna had too much tendon, the Hamachi just didn't have the texture and color I'm used to, and the Snapper tasted a little too fishy. Perhaps that's why the sushi chef put a small dap a wasabi under each piece of sushi. I think they probably deserve a 'do over' but there's a lot of competition in that Park Meadows Market...
FKJOHNSLPX. Bad flavor, bad service, ugly alien looking boss. Please close down your restuarant and go back to your home town waiting for shi. ChaonilpdeB
Disappointed. I ordered dinner for my family from John holly's last night, very salty and small portion food. Worst hot and sour sour i ever had. The delivery order took them more than 1.50 hour to deliver to my door, delivery man asked for more tip for gas. DISAPPOINTED
DO NOT EAT THERE! IT'S JUST BAD!. I saw many things bad about this restaurant after dinner with my friends there last night , First, the restaurant is trying to be fusion, but no sucessfully, menu mix of many similar food but named differently, i felt wasted my money on same dishes. Secondly, poor food quality and service, very salty and oilly food, I got upset stomache after got home. no one took care of our table even there was only eating there, no English speaker waiter work there, only the ugly bold looking short guy asked us if dinner was ok when we leaving. Also, i requested my food without MSG, but i still have MSG in my food. There are some more negative things about this restaurant, which i won't spend more time to write about, I JUST WON'T EVER EAT THERE AGAIN
Below Average Asian Food. Below average chinese food, funny looking boss/manager doesn't understand my request on my order, they ended up gave me wrong items, dirty stinky restroom, expired happy hour beer and wine made me sick .
Denver's BEST sushi. I really have tried them all, and this is THE best sushi place in Denver. The staff are endearing and friendly. The wine list is great. The rolls are creative and diverse in flavors. The fish is really fresh. They give you lots of fish and only a little rice in your rolls, so you are really getting your money's worth (so many places are the other way around... tons of rice and a tiny piece of fish buried in the middle). They don't put mayo or aioli in anything unless you request it. And they have super-white tuna that is melt-in-your-mouth good.
love this place. John Holly's is one of my favorite restaurants in Denver. They have fantastic lunch specials, and their sushi is amazing. I recommend this place all the time and have never heard anyone give negative feedback. Service and atmosphere is excellent.
