I made my first trip to Jackson on business and asked at the hotel where the good restaurant were. She told me Amerigo. Great recommendation!! This place looks really small, I guess it has been around for 20 years. Wow, the food and service was great. My server was Megan and she did a great job taking care of our table. We tried the Cheese Fritters, which I understand Amerigo is famous for (which explains why the are so good). I had the Filet for dinner and my wife had the Cedar Planked Sea Bass. Both prepared perfectly. We had the new Creme Brulee cheesecake for dessert. It was the best cheesecake I have ever had. Overall a great experience and a place I hope to visit again.

Pros: Food, service and wine

Cons: small parking lot

The service here is very quick - gotta like that. Our bottle of wine was brought out right away, as well as some hot bread with some tasty parmesan crust on top and olive oil and herbs for dipping. Strange that an Italian restaurant would have chicken & sausage gumbo for a soup of the day, but I tried it and it was decent, although a little lukewarm. My wife had the Ceasar salad which was ok, though the croutons could have been more homemade-tasting. For entrees I chose the veal saltimboca and my wife had the artichoke and 3 cheese pizza. The veal comes on arugula (why??) and I added angel hair pasta, but I could have done without the arugula (sorry, but I'll order my salad separately!). The veal is stuffed with ham and sage, and you get two of those, with some very herby red sauce. It was okay, definitely very filling. My wife liked her pizza, but she said, "where's the artichokes?" She was only able to finish half, but couldn't find one artichoke (come on, they're not that expensive!). I tried a piece of her pizza and was turned off by the cheese or white sauce or whatever it was. Very strange taste. It's definitely not a tomato-based sauce, so don't get this if that's what you like. Our waitress was very friendly and accomodating. The ambiance, although dimly lit, is not exactly romantic, as many of the tables are very close together. Overall, I give it an average rating.

Pros: quick service

Cons: average food
