Denver >Vital At Pura Vida
Not your typical gym at all. More of a
social setting than a place to get a workout.
I find that amenities are always broken due to one reason or another. You also have to pay for ANYTHING other than your basic classes. After paying huge membership fees why would they keep charging their members for classes?? Seems like the money they make is used more for putting on events and parties, rather than putting the money back into the facility. If you are looking for a place to make a real physical transformation, this is not your place. Throwing an alcohol sponsored event on a monthly basis isnt exactly my idea of a "health Club"
Moreover, my experience at Pura Vida made gave me the impression that the "Club" is a little "cliquey or cultish". My political leanings are liberal, as are the political leanings of the gym and its upper management. However, I still find that the constant pro-gay propaganda is a little intrusive and offensive perhaps even more so to a heterosexual person as opposed to me.
Perhaps Pura Vida wasnt a good fit for me personally, but I just dont see this place fitting anyone other than your stereo-typlical Cherry Creek wife who wants a place to hang out and socialze all day. If you are new to Denver and a gay male, this is a good place to meet new men.
Just not my cup of tea when i think of a place to get a good workout.
Definitely not worth the money. Pay to use the Spa seperatly if you are looking for a massage or to get your nails done. Dont sign up for the gym membership.
I resigned from the gym for the following reasons (a) The towels often had blood stains, hair and other foreign matter on them and it was grossing me out. (b) The master key to unlock the lockers are handed out to anyone claiming they have locked themselves out of their locker with no supervision that they are not using it on other people's lockers. I once watch in amazement when someone came in with the master key and unlocked entire rows of lockers because, giving her the benefit of the doubt, she cannot remember which locker was hers. But the master key can unlock the lockers it cannot lock them again using the original user's combination so essentially the entire locker rooms contents were in unlocked lockers for anyone to take. (c) Management does not seem interested when these and other issues are brought to them so nothing is done about it. (d) The shower room, steam room, whirl pool are always under repair so not only can you not use them but in the ladies' locker room, you cannot even use the locker room unless you want to change in front of the repair personnel working in there for hours on end. (e) Staff members are unavailable to help when you need them e.g. when the TV is not working, there is no one to help you. The people there are only interested in taking care of the clients who had hired them fro personal training.
And when I resigned, they sent an email acknowledging the resignation but then continued to charge my credit card for the monthly dues. Emails and phone calls all went unanswered. I was taking a long vacation in Italy and cannot go in to find someone to speak to about this. I'm still staring at the charges which has not been removed from my credit card!
Best workout in town. Pura Vida is nothing short of decadent. The club is beautiful, and the diversity of classes is the best in town. They have some of the top yoga teachers in Denver, and the studio is gorgeous. Indoor row and spin combo classes are a great change of pace to normal spin classes where you look at a wall. Instructors are friendly, and the location is convenient to downtown, wash park and cherry creek.
Do you like to be snubbed?. Great... until you have a problem. The minute you have an issue with your membership, you get snubbed. I waited 3 days to hear back on a call to their membership department. Then, when I had a pressing problem and called first thing, I found out their manager had "gone to yoga" and would respond to me later (aka 8 hours later). Also, their yoga classes are horrible. Their most popular teacher, Billy, ends every class 15 minutes late. When class is supposed to end, he goes, "I know what time it is. I don't care." Disrespectful? Sorry, but their staff is holier-than-thou.
