great sound, great ambiance
by pokerplayer1234
This place is beautiful and concerts sound great. The show will go on rain or shine, so ALWAYS bring a rain poncho if the sky is cloudy, even if it doesn't look like rain. We all know that evening showers in the summertime are the norm rather than the exception in the foothills. If you get unexpectedly rained on, red rocks sells cheapie ponchos for $5 at the stand where they sell concert tee shirts. If it's dry, you may want to bring a blanket or stadium seat cushion to sit on. They have basic stadium food for dinner such as pizza, hotdogs, nachos, etc. Beer ranges about $6 to $8 a cup. Bathrooms were clean and had real flush toilets. If you're in the upper half of the stadium, there are "real" bathrooms in the visitor center up at the top, with no wait time even for the women. All in all, a great experience even in spite of the frequent rain showers.
- Pros: great sound and great ambiance
- Cons: the rain factor

Interesting Tour

Try Gray Line's Mountain Parks Tour out of Denver hotels or Cherry Creek Mall. A good way to see local points of interest including Red Rocks.
This world-famous concert venue provides a harmonious blend of music and nature.

In Short
Built during FDR's New Deal effort, Red Rocks is a man-made wonder that works in concert with nature. Get there before the show and take a hike; you might see mule deer, falcons and other wildlife. Make sure to take sunscreen or a rain poncho, and be prepared for long lines before show time. There are four parking lots and street parking. Vendors sell hamburgers, hot dogs and nachos--or you can bring your own.

Breathtaking views

Everyone who comes to visit me in Denver is treated to a visit to Red Rocks and most are left speachless. Even if you don't go for a concert, there are breathtaking views of Denver and the foothills to be enjoyed.
- Pros: Views of the city, Accoustics
- Cons: Can be expensive, The hike
Otherworldly

What a fabulous place IF the weather is good, and the band is psyched.
Have found the sound a bit too low on one recent occasion (Lyle Lovett and his Large band). Good tailgating potential in the parking lot, with the back-up band's sound in the background.
It's easy to occasionally lose the music when one takes in one's surroundings.
- Pros: Scenery/ambiance, Location close to Den, Uniqueness
- Cons: benches, Best seats not reserv, The schlep
Hands down, Red Rocks rules

In a league of its own, courtesy of Mother Nature. The ambience fits the true definition of awesome, and performers love to play here, so the music seems to have a more special quality, too.
