Mount Bachelor

I love this mountain! i learned to ski and snowboard hear starting at the age of 4. i remember everything to from hot chocolate in the old econ lodge to every kids favorite run "dilly dally alley". I'm originally from Corvallis but i moved out here when i graduated from high school 5 years ago. the first couple of year i lived here i bought my season pass and every think was ok. then powder corp started to raise the prices more then i could afford. rather then boycott the mountain i went to work for them. I'm a ski instructor. do you know why customer service is bad? i think i know most of the employees can't make rent with there wage so they have to work 2 or 3 jobs to make ends meet. in the ski school the Dollars per hour aren't bad it's the amount of hours you can get in a week thats bad. half the time you show up at 8:00 am and stand around until 10:30 while not enough kids show up and you get payed for 15 min. of work at minimum wage. thats enough to make anyone a little bitter. as you might guess this creates a high turn over rate for the employees which means lack of trained employees. did any body read the bend living from 2 months ago? powder corp has put $7.7 million in to the mountain in the last seven years and they have sold about 10.3 million in mt. bachelors accents. under the Healys they where planing on spending $4 million a year or $28 over the last 7 years with lower ticket prices. thats the kind of money it take to run a world class resort. to keep employees happy, and to keep the mountain running well. don't get me wrong though this mountain has lots of good terrain for many different levels. it has good snow for a good chunk of the year. it have good trees off of the northwest chair and off the back side. crowds aren't to bad except for holidays on Pinemartin. and the food is pretty good at scapolo's at the pinemartin lodge. i know that this can be a great mountain again if powder corp stops chasing locals away so for know it 3 stars.

I'm not sure where these other reviewers have been (California?), and maybe they're lucky enough to ride Mt. B midweek, but the lines have gotten insanely long since I started riding Mt. Bachelor 14 years ago. Maybe it's because Powder Corp. doesn't keep the lifts maintained and they keep breaking down? I'm also not sure why Powder Corp. keeps jacking the lift ticket prices up, yet doesn't make any improvements. And now you have to pay an extra ten bucks for a ticket just because you happen to have an extra day off (holiday price)? I miss Mt. B, but eff Powder Corp. They ruined it for me. I'll drive 2-1/2 hours less time and pay $500 less for a season pass from now on, because they don't deserve my money.

Pros: good snow

Cons: Powder Corp. "manages" it.

Mt. Bachelor is a great mountain with great terrain. its very snowboard friendly, as it has 4 terrain parks, a superpipe, and more tree runs than i can count. sadly, this ahve slowly gone downhill since powder corp. bought Mt. Bachelor. the prices of food there are outrageous. lift ticket prices are still reasonable, they are higher then they used to be before powder corp, but theyre still cheap. The snow quality is the best of any western resort, despite popular opinion, its dry and fluffy. the summit lift is open more often than people say, but is closed about 35% of the time. Crowds are non-existent on weekdays, and on weekends theyre fine, thanks to all the quad express lifts. Overall, Mt. Bachelor is a great mountain that Powder Corp. cant even destroy.

Pros: TREE RUNS!!!, Little/no crowds, good snow

Cons: Powder Corp.

Batchelor is the Disneyland of Skiing. Everything's clean, well laid out and runs like a Swiss watch. The terrain isn't terribly challanging, to say the least, but the mountain's big, the sky's usually blue, and the snow begs to be skied. In fact, it's the best west of the Rockies. Some of the reviewers have characterised Bend as a small town, but to me it's really a small to medium sized city, with plenty of ammenities (but heck, I live in a town of 900 on the lower Columbia river). It's an outdoor recreation paradise, any time of year.

Pros: Snow, Sun, Views

Cons: Easy terrain

During peak winter months (Dec 15.- Mar.), 4 days out of 7 have strong winds and poor visibility, goggle scraper and warm waterproof gear are a must. The proximity to the ocean brings lots of wet weather, sometimes you see freezing mist, sometimes rain, most days are snowing. If you are looking for fresh powder turns, get there early. The locals know the stashes and good spots, and most are tracked by noon. If you are looking for serious terrain, look elsewhere. There are no cliff drops, and the summit is closed due to weather conditions 75% of the season. It is a great place to learn however, and the lifts are fast and efficient. The scenery when visibility permits is breathtaking.

Cons: weather, snow quality, lacks advance terrain

One of the best overall areas in US. Very family friendley, Great lift system, better grooming since part of Park City ownership. Prestine area with no Condo Exlposion or hotels on site(keep it that way) Super accomadations in Bend and Sunriver at good prices. Avoid Southwest storms(can be wet and windy) other wise a lot of Central Oregon sun, great mountain scapes of the Sisters. Better than average food, easy parking at both lodges. Used to ski here when only one poma-lift servred area.

Pros: lift system, grooming, Summit

Mt. Bachelor is a true gem with 250-300 inches of snow and very few lift lines. Californians and Coloradoans are constantly amazed at being able to ride without a wait at the lifts. Skiiers will rejoice at the paucity of boarders at the Northwest and Outback chairs (they congregate on the east side of the mountain). Not alot of fanfare, you won't see any celebrities, the lodge food is marginal, but just great snow.

Pros: awesome snow, min. lift lines, views of the Cascades

Cons: , lodge food sucks, Season pass is spendy

I moved to Bend about a year ago, and I have to say Bachelor is one of its best features. I grew up in the Bay Area and the nearest place to ski was Dodge Ridge which was still 3 hours away. I've skied all of the resorts in Tahoe and none of them compare to Mount Bachelor. Short lines and the discounts in Bend for having a lift ticket (even better if you're a season pass holder!) are just some of the benefits of avoiding the more well known places. Plus there are plans to renovate the smaller lodge and make the resort more classy and accessible.

Pros: Extensive parking, Inexpensive, Breathtaking Views

Best resort in the West. Out of the way location, small town friendly people, great snow, good runs and nothing but express lifts - Oregon's piece of heaven.

I grew up sking Mt Bachelor or Bachelor Butte the proper name. There is nothing wrong with the place but the long lines and the intermediate terrian, they say expert but I never say anything. If you want a better terrian and no lines come to Montana.
