Great Salsa Club - especially for those wanting to learn
by Bdouthit
I noticed there aren't any reviews on here since 2006 so I thought an update was needed. I just spent a good portion of my Saturday evening here (May 2008) and had a great time. I am still trying to learn how to Salsa so this seemed like a good place to go. Key tip if you are new to Salsa - arrive at the club at 8:00 p.m. and get lessons with Rachel. She's fabulous and you'll have lots of fun in this period of time before the club opens. For $20 as a couple we got admitted and almost an hour of instruction - pretty good deal. You can also hang out after lessons sipping margaritas on the patio before it gets crowded. Margaritas are also great - decent size and wel done. After about 10:30 the dance floor does get very crowded with the hard core Salsa crowd, but there's an overflow area of sorts around the bar where you can dance with your partner more casually - and if you want more room. This past Saturday there was also a live band that was very good.
The energy and atmosphere was fantastic - very lively and open. Admittedly it can be a bit intimidating if you aren't an experienced Salsa dancer, but we were both new to Salsa making plenty of mistakes and nobody seemed to care. On one other note - parking is very easy since this is sort of off the beaten path west of Broadway. We actually got street parking very easy when we showed up early. In addition, if you want to take a break and head to regular night club hip-hop/techno dancing Club Vinyl is less than a 5 minute walk down Broadway. I'd recommend Thursday or Saturday at La Rumba. A lot of fun.
- Pros: Great lessons and open atmosphere, Fantastic margaritas, Easy parking.
- Cons: Crowded dance floor late in the evening
Sleekly designed club with easy going atmosphere and great Friday Party!

If you head out to la rumba on a Friday night you'll be in for a differnt experience than other evenings. The Friday night party goes by the name of Lip Gloss and offers CD listening promotions and lots of dancing. The music selection ranges from Brit Pop Punk to early Hip Hop mixes and 90's classics you don't want to admit knowing all the words to. The flooor seethes with happy people pumping their bodies with great drink specials. You don't have to break the bank for $2 PBR or Gin&Tonic with decent to heavy pours.
The atmosphere is open, with lots of lounge style seating surrounding a huge dance floor. Purple and red lights dimly light the huge dance space, while a brighter lit bar is highlighted by a huge angled mirror which allows for people like me to enjoy the view of those around them subtley.
Definitely worth a visit on Friday night and no cover before 10pm.
- Pros: No cover before 10pm and $2 specials all night long Friday!
- Cons: Friday is not salsa night.
Not too impressed anymore!

I have been a going to La Rumba for 6 years to dance to the hot and spicey salsa beats. The club is under new ownership and going down. They are not enforcing the dress code, undesirables are coming in and have rude behavior. I noticed most of the die hard La Rumba dance go'ers have taken to some other salsa club. I was disappointed to see that it is losing it's classy appeal!
Afro-Latin sounds bring sizzle and sassiness to Denver's club flavor.

In Short
Curves are the motif both for the layout and for the sexy people who frequent this salsa haven. The ample dance area provides room to spin or be spun by your partner. Decor and lighting is minimal. Dressing to impress is standard. Salsa aficionados are as strict with their attire as they are with their steps. But newbies shouldn't let the high caliber of dancing intimidate them; lessons are available.

La Rumba's is the best place to salsa in Denver. The music is great and the people are friendly. If you're single, you won't have any trouble finding someone to dance with here...
