Horrible customer service by Katie S. at InsiderPages
Contributor at Insider Pages
I just cut into my birthday cake and was surprised to see it was NOT what we ordered. We ordered white chocolate with raspberry filling. No raspberry filling. My husband called to inquire what was going on and they told him Oh, yeah we gave you a $5 discount because we didn't have raspberry today. What? They never even bothered to tell him in person that it wasn't the cake he ordered.
They offered to make me a complimentary cake in the flavor I ordered, but tonight is my birthday and birthday party - nice try. They refused to refund our money. On top of it all, the cake was disgusting. I have never been disappointed in their cakes - but this was almost wet tasting (husband said it tastes milky), and the filling (without raspberry, of course) was too thin and watery. We will NOT be using them for any functions in the future.
Finally, we were VERY disappointed with customer service- they did not tell my husband the cake was incorrect, and when we called they only offered $5 for our troubles. It's one thing to ruin a birthday cake, but imagine if this was you wedding cake, you know? We have been using Das Meyer for years for all different occasions, but this will be the last time.
A Thrill to Find

Das Meyer was recommended to me by a friend who bought her wedding cake through them a handful of years ago. By the time my fiance and I had arrived on location (after hours and hours of prior cake googling and reading a couple bad reviews on this site) we had some trepidation as to what the quality, and expense would be like.
The cake tasting building is albeit a little small, but not extremely so. We were met with nothing but very warm and friendly associates who were nothing but helpful, accommodating, and conversational. They kindly asked what our wedding date was and guided us to a wonderfully kind and fun older gentleman who chatted with us about the cakes, our wedding, and the history of truffles. We were offered as much samples as we could eat. We were able to sit down with our samples at romantic intimate tables and flip through books and books of beautiful examples.
the specialty cakes we interesting and unique flavors that were perfectly moist and not too sweet. The prices are comparable to KingSoopers and better. they also provide a free one year anniversary cake!
They are more than willing to work with us to create teh perfect custom cake for us with no additional charge. We are greatly looking forward to our Das Meyer wedding cake June 2010!
- Pros: Delicious, beautiful, affordable cakes!
- Cons: Perhaps some limited seating
WOW!! What a Great Wedding Cake
by Lania Bride at Citysearch
WOW!!!! Das Meyer was packed for the tasting, but as we discovered, it's because they are really the BEST!! We tried cakes at other bakeries, but none of them even came close to the taste AND the customer service at Das Meyer. The people at this family business are truly friendly, accomodating, and so creative.
We took in a picture of what we thought we wanted, but when we saw the amazing creations that they make, we decided right then and there to change it.
Not only did they deliver exactly what we ordered for our wedding, but everyone commented on how moist and flavorful it was. I will return for all our family cakes in the future.
- Pros: Most Beautiful Cakes
- Cons: none
Terrible customer service, avoid this place

A few weeks ago my daughter and I stopped in to inquire about a baby shower cake. It is obvious they are only interested in the $$$ they get from wedding cakes, because they only have photos of them and no other cakes.
They offer cake tasting only if you are getting a wedding cake, etc.
They do serve stuffed pockets on the weekends and I ordered one with spinach and feta cheese. After one bite I was unable to eat it. Tasted like it had too much baking soda in it- very salty. I quietly stood at the counter until a woman came to assist me. I explained that the item was unedible and that I would like to try a different item. I was told they do not take returns. I tried to tell her I thought there was something off about the taste and that I wanted to have her change it for something else because I was unable to eat it. Again I was told, "we cannot take it back, it is against health code". No "I'm sorry", "let me get you something else" basically "too bad for you". They were not interested in making me happy, I only spent $6 on two small items...I informed the woman that I would go to Rheinlander Bakery in Old Town Arvada for my cakes and that they had lost a customer and many others because of their lack of customer service. I also gave them back the bag with the nasty stuffed pocket in it and told them to throw it in their own trash, as I didn't want it in mine. The owner was standing there when I did it and no one even tried to make me happy, so over a $3 item they are willing to risk their business opportunities with my family and our friends. No problem, Rheinlander is much better quality and prices, and they have better customer service. I was just so shocked that they were disinterested in keeping a customer happy and saving their reputation.
- Pros: none
- Cons: customer service and quality are poor
Terrible Customer Service

I went here over a year ago when I was at the height of wedding cake tasting. They only offer tastings on Sat from 10 am to 2 pm (I think) - no way to schedule anything - so the result is a huge line on Saturdays and very limited seating - and it would be okay if everyone waited in line together, got their cake and then sat down, but what happens is the bride to be's end up waiting in line with a girlfriend or mother while the father or groom to be sit at a table and hold onto it, and people were very territorial about their table and even the books of photos- while my bridesmaid and my mom and I were waiting, we glanced at an open book on an empty table to have a father come by and get mad saying it was his book and table - then we finally get to the cake counter and there are limited flavors - pick what they have - and all the cakes had the same buttercream frosting - and then there were no tables and we had to eat our cake standing up! I asked someone about a flavor I saw on the website but it was not there that day and asked how I could try it - they said I would have to call every Sat AM to see if they made it, and if they did then I could come in. I said what if I pay for a sample? The answer was no. I said well what if I want to pay for cake of it, I at least want to try it, and they refused to find an easy way for me to get a sample. In this business, customer service is everything! The cake was okay, but I find it was over rated. We heard from lots of people it was the best cake ever - and I certainly don't agree with that. Also, we got a cream cheese blueberry pasty thing there for our family, and it was terrible! the smallest layer of pastry with a huge chuck of gross cream cheese in the middle. The pastry fell apart when you cut it and the cream chese stuff was not goof. I ended up going with Elegant Bakery - they make tasting appointments and samples just for you with the flavor cake, filling, and frosting you request, and they care about what you want and they do what you ask! Which is what should be expected from a wedding cake baker!
- Pros: Cake was okay
- Cons: Too busy to care about customers
Awesome

In a world filled with Costcos and Sam's Club's and dying small businesses, it is resfreshing to enjoy the Das Meyer experience. We went to the cake tasting yesterday-- enjoyed impeccable service and look forward to an absolute divine wedding cake. The raspberry lemon filling awakens the tastebuds. The cakes are not too sweet -- just right and the pricing is reasonable, aligned well with quality and service.
- Pros: Best Cakes in Denver. Period.
- Cons: North Side of Town
We love this place!

Our family has been using this bakery for years. I personally have never had bad customer service and the cakes are divine!! Birthdays, Anniversaries, Easter, Mother's Day. I am now ordering for Mother's Day. Not sure what happened with some of these others. If it is true - that is very sad because our experiences here have been wonderful!!!
- Pros: Most divine cakes in Denver
- Cons: None
Beautiful Cake, Tasted even Better
by BEdlmaier at Citysearch
We hunted around the city for our wedding cake for our June 2008 wedding. My in-laws had a different preference for cakes, but the delivery charges of many of the other bakeries around were ridiculous (more than the cake at one place). I did some searching and happened upon Das Meyers. My maid-of-honor and I did a tasting about 8 months before the wedding, and set up the order. I knew sort of what I wanted the cake to look like, and so just told them a general idea. OH MY GOD! It turned out to be the most beautiful cake I have ever seen. I could not have imagined it any more beautiful.
We returned to Das Meyers about 2 months before the wedding with some ribbon, and another tasting. My fiance and his parents loved the flavors.
They delivered early on the wedding day, so when I arrived at the venue it was already waiting. What a dream. We went with the Bailey's Irish Creme, Orange Dream, and Strawberry's and Champagne. My only complaint was that my husband and I only got our few ceremonial bites, because the cake was gone by the time we stopped dancing! Everyone raved about it, and I have never heard of another wedding that didn't end up with any leftover cake!
We look forward to our 1 year anniversary cake, and will use Das Meyers again in the future.
Very reasonable prices, amazing flavors. Go early for tasting, because it gets a little crowded, but a great place to work with. Plan on not having any cake left-over!
- Pros: Reasonable price, amazing taste, great service, perfect delivery and setup
- Cons: Parking, Crowded
My expierence with Das Meyer...
by goddessangel at Citysearch
I got married in september, and I wanted something completely different for our wedding cake. I searched all over Denver to find a decent priced, what I wanted cake. I had read mixed reviews on Das Meyer, but they were the cheapest I found, who were also willing to make my cake how I wanted it. Not how they thought they could do it. I gave them a picture and they made it perfect!!! I was so pleased with how my cake turned out!! They delivered it on time to the venue and it was the right flavor as well. The staff was so friendly, and the cake was delicious! Everything I wanted for our wedding cake and more!
- Pros: Good price and delicious cakes!
- Cons: Busy on tasting days
Excellent Cake and Service
by SCastanon at Citysearch
I'd heard such good things about Das Meyer, so on the advice of my uncle (whom is friends with Dennis, the owner), I took my mom along for a free cake tasting for my upcoming wedding in August 2007. After my first bite of strawberryies & champagne with buttercream icing, I knew I wanted Das Meyer to bake my wedding and groom's cakes. Rachel was wonderful to work with and I never had any issues with rudeness on the staff's part. I chose a 3-layer cake (2 layers of strawberries & champagne and 1 layer of tres leches) and it was decorated to my simple specifications. They delivered it on time and my florist topped it with fresh flowers as requested - it was beautiful!! (and tasted even better!) In fact, we had the staff at our wedding location hurry to box it up so we would have some leftovers! Our guests really enjoyed it and so did my husband and I. His groom's cake was also decorated to our specifications and tasted out of this world (chocolate truffle). I expected our order to be much more than the total price we were charged, so I was pleasantly surprised that the cost was so reasonable. I also had no problems ordering or getting our free first anniversary cake in August 2008 - it was delicious! I would highly recommend Das Meyer to anyone looking for an amazing bakery for a wedding/groom's cake. I'm sorry for some of the other reviewers who didn't have the same good experience I had, but we're all entitled to their opinions, and I'm just glad my experience was outstanding.
- Pros: Excellent service, tasty cakes
- Cons: very busy free cake tastings on Sat. mornings, had to wait for a table
Decent Cakes, but Terrible Customer Service
by gregmayer421 at Citysearch
Das Meyer definitely makes good cakes, but that's only part of the overall package. The other -- more critical -- part is how well they treat their customers and they are sufficiently lacking in this area.
Our wedding was a year ago and we had ordered three different cakes for a non-traditional ceremony. We were informed that Das Meyer (like most wedding cake shops) would provide a free cake on our first anniversary. So, we called them to order it and the girl indicated they had no record of our order. She checked under other names, but was unable to locate it. I found a payment to Das Meyer for $143.31 on my bank statement and she indicated that they would make the cake and asked that I just bring the statement in. No problem.
About 30 minutes later the manager called and said they would not be making the anniversary cake because they had no record of the original order and that the bank statement would not suffice. Plus, she said that their cakes started at $180.00 (seeming to suggest that I was lying). After some back and forth, she explained that she was "sorry", but still refused to make the cake.
A few things here:
(1) A simple anniversary cake would not cost that much for them to provide.
(2) I had proof of a payment, though not the original receipt (why would I save that for a year?)
(3) A little effort on their part could have made for a "tremendous" experience for the customer.
In this industry, customer service is extremely important and they failed to deliver. I would never do business with Das Meyer again and will not recommend them.
You can find cakes just as good at a place that offers stellar customer service.
- Pros: Good cake
- Cons: Poor customer service
