Excellent Coffee Shop

by BallSaxbury

Paris Coffee Roasting is a fantastic coffee shop. Their food and coffee is top-notch, and while it does command a premium price, the quality is very high. Their coffee is freshly roasted and they get their chai and other teas specially blended from a local spice shop. When you support Paris Coffee Roasting, not only are you supporting a local small business, but one that works with other small businesses in the area. The people who work at Paris are great. I've never had a single problem with the service. When you go into Paris late at night, when the place is packed, you'll still get great service. The wait staff are attentive but not annoying and get your order right every time.

I'm more than happy to drive half an hour to Paris Coffee Roasting multiple times per week because of the quality of food and drinks, the great people working there, and the fact that I'm supporting a small business.

  • Pros: Great Food And Coffee

Mmk. Awesome

by CSMobileUser

Okie dokie. So I'm guessing that all of the people who have written bad reviews about this place have never worked in a restaurant. And if you have you should know that when you're almost past the maximum capacity of the building it is sort of hard to treat every customer like they're the only customer in the place. When things get busy (and I don't mean like half the place busy. I mean the entire place is so busy that some people are standing) they can't focus on you and treat you like you're God's gift to mankind. I have been served by pretty much every person that works there and every single one of them has been extremely kind. I only know two of their names (Jason and Shatsta?) but at most places when it's that busy your server won't even give you the time of day let alone their name. Yes. Sometimes you do have to wait for your coffee but it isn't as if they are purposely keeping your coffee/tea/food from you. They're just so busy that they can't bring everyones coffee/tea/food out to them in three minutes. And if you want your coffee or food or tea go drink substandard coffee from Starbucks or go get your food from a fast food joint. Ok? Great things take time. And for the people that say they are "insanely overpriced" you should get over it. When they roast their own beans and make their coffee with care you darn well better expect it to be at least two dollars over the mediocre coffee at Starbucks. Thanks!

Where did these other people go?

by Danielle77

Why all the hate mail for Paris? I don't recognize the place where I ate in the reviews below.

I had a business lunch at Paris yesterday, visiting the coffee shop for the first time since high school. My memories were of 17-year-olds dressed in black, drinking coffee with copious amounts of milk and sugar to mask the fact that we hadn't quite "acquired" that taste yet, and the smell of Cloves. I was a little dubious about the location being up to business par, but gave it a go. I'm happy I did, as a favorite former haunt has grown up quite nicely.

I walked in and grabbed a table. I had a menu and water within minutes, brought by a pierced waitress that never would have gotten a first interview at a chain. She was quick and knowledgeable (leading me to the pesto chicken sandwich - trust me, eat this) and checked in often enough to be helpful but not annoying. And she didn't wear the plastic Starbucks smile that can't be sincere on a $7.50/hr employee. Just a real person doing her job - good enough for me.

So was the experience akin to the Second Coming of coffee? No. But I don't look to a coffee shop to be the epitome of fine dining. I'm not seeking a gastronomical soul mate. I want a solid, local alternative to all of the cookie cutter corporations that Denver seems to breed in its restaurants. I found that at Paris. Do I love the smoke? No. Would I still come back for the chai? Absolutely.

And I can't wait to try the wine bar.

  • Pros: funky staff, tasty eats, great value
  • Cons: smoke

Are you f**king kidding me?!

by RainbowKitten

My friends and I just got back from attempting to have a nice evening at Paris On The Platte.

However, it did not end that way.

Our waitress spilled all of our drinks on all four of us.

She did not apologize, took forever to bring my friends their drinks, and completely forgot mine. Finally, my friend asked for my drink, and the waitress brought it to me... but, it was wrong.

Still, no apology, she proceeded to dodge our table, and not even ask us how we were doing.

We waited around for at least twenty minutes for our check, watching the waitress walk by us, and continue to ignore us.

Finally, we decided to get up and go to the register, where we explained our problem and asked for our drinks to be paid for.

The lady at the register proceeded to argue with us about how it wasn't fair to them if we didn't pay.

In the meantime, our waitress that spilled all over us started crying and ran to the bathroom, STILL NOT APOLOGIZING! If she had taken responsibility for what happened, and actually talked to us, we wouldn't of been upset. But she didn't, so we reasonably tried to ask the woman at the register if we could be discounted more.

As far as I know, customer is always right, you do not argue with the customer. Being a bartender, you pay for the drinks you spill. The customer does not, because it's not their fault.

Furthermore, the woman at the register was a very large b**ch to us, and by treating us so badly, elevated the situation and made a big scene, while we were trying to be rational.

I would not suggest this little coffee shop to anyone, and I will not return.

There has been reports of hair in people's food, and all around bad service from everyone who has worked there.

Do not go to this coffee shop.

Used to be Great

by ChicagoBrat

Paris on the Platte used to be a place where one could go, mid day or late night get a cup of Joe and a sandwich. Recently they have made a few changes and you can decide if it is something you like or not. Paris used to be a great, fun place to go. You could jam on some real music, not lame elevator tunes. The servers had personality and it was all around a good time.

Recently, they have made some changes and while some of them are great others make unbearble to go there.

The good: they are working on theirt service problems. Trying to improve service and the speed in which you are served. They made their main dinning area non smoking allowing for a breathable atmosphere. The wine bar is great, good prices and a HUGE wine list.

The Cons: It seems that Paris has censored the music choices picked by the staff. While the hard rock was a poor choice for days, it is no longer a place of free thought and free choices. If I wanted starbucks I'd go to starbucks. The prices, very expensive... you sure aren't getting what you pay for. The internet is slow... it may be free, but you are getting what you pay for, it can only handle like 8 people on their internet connection.

If Paris wants to create the image of exactly what you get at every other coffee shop in denver, their new changes are making it so. The only thing thats saves the place is their wine bar, and their late night hours... I can go to Village in or Perkins and get the same old atmosphere that the new changes are offering...

  • Pros: You can still smoke in the back room, Coffee, Wine Bar
  • Cons: The atmosphere, the prices,

Great coffee shop, in theory

by normanrs

Unlike so many coffee shops, Paris on the Platte has servers that come to you, is smoking-friendly, and is open into the wee hours of the morning (as a coffee shop should be). They have a solid menu, great food, roast their own beans, and make very good coffees. So why, then, am I giving them just two stars?

The service is absolutely TERRIBLE.

What good is it that their coffee is tasty when it takes them 10 minutes just to notice your existence? Count on another 10-15 (actually, I've waited longer) for your coffee to arrive - even if coffee is all you've ordered. On my last visit I sat at a table that had not been cleaned for over 5 minutes (no place to put my laptop as the table was also wet) and the server PUSHED MY HAND AWAY when I went to get an unused napkin from her tray (after asking her politely if she had any napkins). She indeed came and wiped the table down - only to leave it SO WET I STILL COULDN'T PUT MY LAPTOP ON IT. This is to say nothing of the consistently long time it takes them to get you your bill or pick it up when you're ready. Oh, and did I mention the servers generally unfriendly/annoyed attitude? Good times. Maybe it's not all the servers' fault - they do seem to be stretched quite thin. Regardless, something is not right and it, sadly, ruins what is.

  • Pros: Great food, coffees, and teas
  • Cons: Terrible service, pricey

Great Place

by heph

After reading many of the review on this site about ?Paris? I?m going to make an assumption that most of the folks writing said reviews are yuppies wanting to shine and be number one in a cafe of over 100. Firstly I?ve worked in many kitchens, and while I wouldn?t say all the food here at Paris is top notch, it is pretty good and a few of their specialty foods are excellent. As for the coffee, most people are used to either Folgers or Starbucks; I?ve managed a coffee shop and have enjoyed coffees from all regions of the world. I will say REAL coffee is an acquired taste, Paris? coffee while not the best I?ve had is far better then either the fore mentioned Folgers and Starbucks.

The service in the day is pretty prompt and the staff are always polite. In the evening when the place never has less then 75 people, I does get cramped sometimes and the speed service does decline, its to be expected. As far as staff being rude, I have come to know a few and I will say they are as polite as the respect they are getting. Give a little get a little.

Eeah, ok

by factor17

I use to go here with friends all the time back in high school, now I know why it was a high school hang out. This place is pretty chill and great to go sit and chat over cups of chai tea and clove cigarettes for hours, but not good for anything else. If you're looking for food, go try My Brother's Bar located just down the street at the intersection of 15th and Platte. That place has really good burgers that are served fast.

This place is really just for conversation, don't expect much more out of it and you won't be disappointed.

  • Pros: Good Coffee, Chai Tea, Smokes, and Chill Space
  • Cons: "OK" service at "OK" prices.. but just barely "OK"

Wi-fi

by mmw3350

There are few places to smoke in Denver any more - if you don't like smoke, don't go there. You can enjoy your coffee with your computer for hours at a time - nobody hassles if you are just sitting around. Food is rather good. I crave the nutty cheesy salad. It's a very relaxed atmosphere. If you are in a hurry, go elsewhere.

  • Pros: Free wi-fi
  • Cons: Looking old and shabby

Dirty, and Terrible Service

by penmo

This place has terrible service, you can't even breathe in there with all the smoke, and it's extremely dirty! It used to be enjoyable at one time and more clean but it has definitely gone downhill. The quality of the food and drinks has drastically gotten worse. They used to make the best Chai I've ever tasted and now it's either too spicy, too sweet, or has no flavor at all. Their food tastes like cheap frozen dinners. The place is really dirty. The bathrooms are filthy and something just does not seem right when you see baby flies all over the bathroom...can we say Maggots?...makes me wonder what the kitchen looks like. Lastly...terrible service, these people expect tips? Yea right! They are rude rude rude! They will even yell at you if you don't tip them what they think they should get tipped! Forget this place.

  • Pros: music, scene
  • Cons: bad food, dirty, terrible service, smokey
