I have been to Maggiano's 2 times, both times with groups over 8 people. Each time, they have tried to force us into their "family-style" menu (they have 2 different menus). The "family-style" menu costs $20-$30 per person, and is 4-5 courses. However, if you just order off the regular menu the portions are giant and two people can share 1 entree, which will only cost you $10-$15 per person. Each time, I asked the waiter why they tried to force us into the "family-style" menu and they said to help out the kitchen. Give me a break! What kitchen can't handle an 8-person table? On top of that, I found the food at Carmine's on Penn (highly recommended) and Buca di Beppo to be better. Maggiano's does have a ravioli that was excellent, but overall it was average.
Pros: ravioli, large portions are good for groups
Cons: avg food, waiters push large groups into "family-style" menu when regular menu is fine
