Tasty Peruvian Buffet

by DenverJ

Since there isn't much open for lunch downtown, we wandered into uncharted territory today. I'm happy we did because we stumbled on Los Cabos.

Los Cabos is a friendly and delicious introduction to Peruvian food. They had a buffet with a wide variety of items to try. The food ranged from white fish with red, white and yellow sauces to cebeche to carne seca. Normally I shy away from seafood in buffets, but they were busy enough to keep it fresh. The waiter was friendly and even brought us a couple of beef skewers to try something off of the buffet.

The atmosphere was comfortable. The stuffed animal alpaca was a fun touch.

If I had to complain about anything, I would say the price was a little steep at $15 and the non-buffet item we ordered was a little slow. To be fair, the weekday buffet is only $8.95 and it was main attraction.

All in all, I recommend Los Cabos as a fine introduction to Peruvian food. If you go, don't miss the carne seca. It was my favorite.

  • Pros: Delicious food, friendly atmosphere
  • Cons: A little pricey

Delicious Peruvian dishes with a very inviting, casual atmosphere

by chirogirl1

Friendly service - our waiter made great recommendations on drinks and entrees. It was my first time trying Peruvian food and it was delicious. Generous portions served at the perfect temperature. Even the leftovers tasted great the next day. I would highly recommend this dining experience for those looking to try something new and a little unexpected. A nice change from the crowded, noisy Downtown restaurants on a Saturday night. Free parking in the lot next door so it's very convenient. I would go back for sure.

first peruvian dining experience...and it was GREAT!

by fullbellyhappybelly

this was our first time having peruvian food. my friend recommended it, saying it was really authentic and very good. we went with some friends, and i think all of us agreed the food was fantastic! our server was really helpful in recommending some great dishes. my husband got the bistek a lo pobre, and i had the lomo saltado. our server brought us this green sauce, kinda salty, a little spicy, cilantro-y, that you put on your rice, and i was addicted! the restaurant itself is very casual and nicely decorated, with big wooden tables and chairs, and a cute little lounge/waiting area up front. valet parking is validated as well. i can't wait to go back and try their pollo a la brasa (which wasn't available the night we went).

  • Pros: great food at a great price, friendly service

Just like Peru...but the drinks are cold

by thefooddood

Sure it may be a little slow, but it's not an American deli. If you come to a Peruvian restaurant expecting speedy service you're setting yourself up. This is an authentic, relaxing, taste of Peru. The food is good and the servers, though informal, are very friendly. Try a pisco sour, the national drink of Peru.

  • Pros: Good food, authentic flavors, relaxing pace
  • Cons: Relaxing pace

Good Food - Horrible Service

by tapatio14

I reccomend the food here( Lomo Saltado ) but they would have to improve their service for me to ever go back again. It took them 50 minutes for one of only two waitresses to come to our table just to tell us that our food will be ready in 15 minutes. The problem was obvious, there were only two waitresses and one cook on a Friday durring lunch time. I am not sure if this is a way for ownership to cut corners and profit more since these same witeresses also served as cashiers and bartenders as well. We wound up not recieving our order and having lunch at Mcdonalds. I reccomend this place if you want to arrive right when they open thier doors and you are not on your lunch hour.

  • Pros: Good Food

Horrible service and food

by smith8101

Incredible experience if you are looking for Denver's most tacky restaurant. I have been there couple of times, and tried a lomo that was chewy and rather poor quality meats. The wines taste cheap. NO CLASS, very bad experience. Would never go there again.

  • Pros: none really
  • Cons: too many to list

Great food - bad service. The Bistake a la pobre is my fave but lomo saltado is a close second. the Cebiche mixto is great as well. The seasoning is the best around and the are now making pisco sour's YUM!!!! try it you'll love it. don't go for the service though!
