Avoid this place at all costs

by Baghjou

I've been to this bar several times over the past few years and things seemed okay (not great, just okay). But I was there on Saturday 7/25/09 from noon until 1:30 with a bunch of friends and we were not just treated rudely, as other reviewers have stated, we were treated with absolute disdain. The waitress was literally throwing plates of food on our table and the bartender acted as if we were vermin in need of extermination. We left and went across the street to a friendly bar with a competent and engaging wait staff. My friends and I will never set foot in this place again nor will any of our friends or relatives. These guys should be out of business soon if they are treating all their customers this rudely.

  • Pros: Nice selection of brews
  • Cons: Rudest staff in town

What an awful place

by wyliepost

You know.....you can serve me good beer and tasty food all nite long, but if the service is terrible and the attitude is rude, I will not have fun. This place does not seem to understand that. I have tried this place twice and both times were horrible. The bartenders on both visits were rude. We seemed to have the incredible vanishing waitress and the bartender would not serve us while seated at a table....even if paying cash at the bar for the drinks to bring back to the table. In this economy, unless they change their ways, I have no idea how this place will remain open. Too many other nice places in LODO to spend my money.

No more chances for this place from me and I will make sure my friends know to avoid this place too.

  • Pros: Nice Beer Selection
  • Cons: Bad Service and Rude Employees

Mecca for Good Beer Lovers

by misskimberly

I'll keep it simple - if you like good beer, you will like Falling Rock. It's a no frills atmosphere with a nice beer selection, and a far cry away from the meat market bars it shares a general area with.

Mmmm, Cheeseburger

by MountainGoblin

Good burger, good beer, angry ninjas.........what's not to like? If I had to complain, I wish it was closer to my house and not downtown.

It really pains me to have to do this...

by akbuch

...but I finally have to issue a review, and I'm afraid it ain't good. Let me begin by saying I've been a BIG fan of this bar and its beer selection for over seven years and have had many good times there. HOWEVER, it's no secret that the place has clearly gone downhill over the last couple of years. Like a lot of other reviews mention, the service here has become surly at best, non-existent at worst. The perception on the street is that if you happen to know someone who works here (as I'm lucky enough to) then chances are you'll receive great service. If not, well, there's no telling what you'll get. It's completely hit-and-miss, and I've witnessed servers and bartenders being downright rude and mean to patrons on more than one occasion. And maybe this is just me and my weird luck, but it seems like the last few times I've been in there I've had to pick three different beers off the menu before they actually had one that was available.

If the owner happens to read this, please PLEASE do something before I and a lot of other people finally just give up on this place. It's a shame to see something you love turn into something awful.

  • Pros: Best beer selection in the state if not the entire west.
  • Cons: Unfriendly service.

If you want to get hurt and cussed out for being Miss Manners....

by IPAlover

Great selection of beer, although often the vast selection leads to some skunky old pints. Don't expect good or even any service unless you are well endowed, and even then..... The OWNER HURT MY FRIEND when he slung a door into her and he didn't even say sorry to HER. I told him he should appologize and he cussed us both out and told us to get the "F" out of his bar. It used to be my favorite and only bar in Denver, but I will never return again!!!! There are better places to spend your money, plus their beer is fresher since they don't caryy so many varities!

  • Pros: Variety of (Skunked Out) Beer
  • Cons: No/ Horrific service from bartenders, waitresses, oh, and one of the owners is the rudest and unkindest persons in the world

Wretched Service

by sarstei

I found it interesting that the last review also mentions that the bartender told the poster to "get out" - that was exactly what I was told. I had tolerated the bad service in the past because of the beer selection, but I will not be back. We stopped by yesterday and I went to the bar to order beer. The bartender walked up and down the bar several times but never acknowledged me. He finally looked up and down the bar to see who needed a beer. I gave a little wave to try to get his attention. As he walked toward me, he said ?I?m not your dog. Don?t wave at me?. (I don?t usually wave to dogs.) I said that I was just trying to get his attention and gave him my order. He walked away and told me he would need to see two IDs (because I ordered two beers). I was standing behind people who were sitting at the bar, so I tossed the IDs onto the bar so that the people in front of me wouldn?t have to move. At that point he said ?If you are going to act like that, I don?t want your money. You should just get out.? My friend and I moved on to another bar, happy to not reward such wretched service.

Worst service EVER

by tallysw

I unfortunately can't comment on the food or the beer, as we never had either. We stopped at the Tap House on a whim and encountered such amazingly horrible service before ever ordering that we gave up in disgust and left. When we told our waitress we were ready to order, she said she'd be right back, then went and chatted with the bartender for TEN MINUTES, doing absolutely nothing- and I mean nothing. The bartender was leaning against the bar just chatting, not making anyone any drinks. In the meantime there were several people standing at the bar waiting to be served and being ignored. When I finally went up to the bar to ask if we could get some service the bartender interrupted and said if we didn't like it, we could get out. So we did. We won't be back, and neither will our friends.

  • Pros: Great place to go if you like being treated like dirt.
  • Cons: Being treated like dirt.

For beer afficionados

by Rhialistic

If you are in Denver and want to experience 70 or so taps from which to choose local, national and international craft beers (and many more bottles, particularly Belgians), then this is the place.

If you want a margarita, a Bud Light, or a pitcher of Coors (all of which are fine if that's what you want), do NOT come here. This place is catered to those who are Beer Advocates. They also serve halfway decent pub grub at a good value (great Bison burgers).

It is true, the service isn't always good, especially if the place is slammed, but if you are a local or try to order decent beers then you will probably be treated just fine. In fact i'm a regular and i'm treated very well, but i kinda had to work my way up to that.

Some may not think that's right, but i think it was worth it because you can't get a better beer selection within 1000 miles of this place, and that is a true fact.

Come to Falling Rock and try something you've never had before, your favorite type of beer may just be waiting for you there, even if you don't think you like beer!

  • Pros: Great beer selection, good pub grub, great place if you're even a semi-regular
  • Cons: Busy LoDo location is kind of a hassle

Many Beers, Worst service ever!

by trex3

I have been here a couple of times and recieved horrible service! Then I had to meet some friends there so I went in expecting horrible service, I was very surprised when before I even walked in the door the waitress managed to offend me even more! I have heard from other people in the industry that you just have to know someone there. I can accept that to be treated very well, you need to know someone, but its nice to go somewhere and at least be treated in a civil manner!
