Jam packed with goodness
by DancerHolly
This place is relatively small, (compaired to the other independant music stores in Denver) but it is completely crammed wall to wall with music. The staff range from punkish and hipster to "okay, I'm sorta scared of you" but they're happy to hunt down that album you totally require and would actually feel guilty downloading. On the vynal side, I have always been thrilled with both the new and used selection. I found a coloured vynal of AFI's Answer That And Stay Fashionable brand new limmited to 300 pressings for a mere $12. Total win.
- Pros: Good selection, helpful staff, cool posters on every square inch of wall space
- Cons: virtually nonexistant parking, dodgy 'hood, some staff members are a bit scary
It set the bar for Denver's indie record shops.

In Short
The wooden shelves in this cramped store are bursting with albums. They're coming from every possible nook and feature each curious little subcategory of music imaginable. The clerks are likely to be young, punkish, with wild clothes and hair. They represent the best of urban culture in Capitol Hill. It's an especially great place to pick up the old, hard-to-find jazz albums you must have for that special date.
ok vinyl selection

I've been shopping for years at this place, and have found a lot of "rare" vinyl record albums. Sometimes they don't have enough in stock. Some of the employees are "scarey" to ask for help, other than that it is an ok place to visit.
- Pros: good album section, sometimes good value, interesting place
- Cons: parking sucks, neighborhood?, albums in stock
cool store.

I was actually surprised to come across this litttle gem in the neighborhood....The other record stores around here suck. But Wax Trax had some really rare stuff that I've been trying to find for years! And the staff was actually nice, not like some "other" record stores...I heard that its been around for like 26 years or something...Doesn't that make it a landmark or something?
I'll definitely be back!
- Pros: Lots os rare stuff, excellent prices, knowleable staff
- Cons: sketchy neighborhood, parking
Such nice, helpful people!

I don't go to many music stores, but I was looking for a specific song for my wedding anniversary, and I had no idea who it was by or where to find it. My daughter recommended I try Wax Trax.
When I first arrived, I was a little intimidated, but the woman I talked to behind the counter made me feel welcome immediately. She took the time to find all the artists who had done the song (which were quite a few!), and let me listen to the different versions. She also had some wonderful recomendations for other music to play from that era.
I would never have gotten this kind of attention at Best Buy or Walmart! Those chains didn't even know what song I was talking about.
This is a wonderful store, not just for young people!
- Pros: friendly&helpful, fair prices
- Cons: parking
search no more

This is by far the best cd/ record store in town! you can't beat the knowledge of the staff, and the selection is killer!
There is no other place to shop for 45s, and their selection of obscure titles is unbeatable. The prices are fair (and great for used product).
- Pros: cool atmosphere
- Cons: a little grimey
More like rabbit trix

This is a great store if you are looking for new. For those of us into "recycling" the old, this store is lacking.
- Pros: Better than Idaho
- Cons: Parking, Expensive, Poor selection
Could be better...

Wax Trax Vinyl is an ok shop. Actually, the only reason I buy vinyl there is because of its close proximity to my house. There needs to be more listening stations, a more knowledgeable staff with relation to dance music and they could dust a little more. I can dig the indie credibility that they are going for but indie doesn't have to equal dirty. They still get my money periodically.
- Pros: Good prices, location
- Cons: Not enough turntables, Dirty, Dance music selection
