I love The Hornet and used to go there weekly. The food is not nearly as good as it was 2-3 years ago. While it isn't subpar, it isn't what it used to be at all. The service is usually pretty good. It can get really busy on the weekends, but whatever. As much as I like this place, it disappoints me that it has digressed a bit into something not so unique as it used to be. Drink specials are not too bad. I always love the bloody mary bar on the weekends!
Pros: Good food, happy hour specials
Cons: Menu doesn't change much anymore!

The Hornet is a complete dive. We went there a few weeks ago and were so disgusted that we actually took time to write a review. WARNING- The Hornet has been misspelled. It’s true name is “Wh0re Net.” When we arrived for lunch one Saturday afternoon, we were greeted by a group of pre-pubescent girls who were nursing their hangovers with a free – all you can drink – Bloody Mary bar. They were so obnoxious… I thought of leaving… but I didn’t want to appear rude. After being seated near these women of loose morals, we started looking at the menu. A few minutes later, a couple who rode their bicycles to the illustrious Hornet (replete in their bicycling accouterments) were seated right next to us. The entire “joint” was empty but the hostess thought it best to seat them right next to us. Ok… no worries… we can get past this… NEXT… in comes the homeless man who has saved up enough cash to buy himself a burger – God bless him. Where do they seat him? Right next to us. Stinky bikers to the left.... Homeless man to the right… here I am stuck in the middle with the “Free Bloody Mary Wh0res!” After ordering just a cola, I decided to throw five dollars down and go… The Hornet looks to be a great club… but is certainly not a restaurant. The Hornet serving food is akin to Shot Gun Willies serving a fried food platter… Let’s admit it! You really don’t go there for the food.
Pros: Great place to hang out on a Friday night.
Cons: Not a restaurant.

Best Atmosphere in Denver The Hornet has great service and the food was excellent. The hostess was great, and the waitstaff was excellent. The SHELLS AND CHEESE was very tasty, and the HONEYSTUNG CHICKEN was to die for. The atmosphere was terrific and the beer selection was heavy with a realistic price. I would definitely go back to the HORNET the next time I am in DENVER. Oh yeah, do not forget to try the SWEET POTATO FRIES!!!
Pros: Relaxing Atmosphere
Cons: NONE

The Hornet fast became one of my favorite restaurants. Generous portions, good food, and great waitrons definitely make it a place worth frequenting. The menu is diverse and colorful: try the Guinness battered fish and chips, the cuban sandwich, or if you really want a treat, order off the special board. Varied offerings, such as a seafood pizza or crab meat ravioli never fail to please. And that doesn't even touch on their drink specials, which will usually save you a few bucks per beer or mixed drink. Anywhere else in the country, The Hornet would be on the annoying side of hipster bar, but being Denver, it's just a cool, comfortable neighborhood bar. On any given visit, you might run into someone doing a quick business lunch, a family enjoying a night out with the kids, a smattering of hipsters, and generally just normal folks. It's an easy place to relax and enjoy a tasty meal. Note: If you're not into live music, avoid Saturday nights.
Pros: Great food, good service, great specials, comfortable environment
Cons: Parking can be rough, busy on the weekends, live music in a relatively small space

I've been to The Hornet a few times, always at lunch time or early afternoon. The service was always fast, friendly, and lots of non annoying people seem to be there. Try the au grautin potatos and lobster pizza. Those are some tasty spuds.
Pros: Service, food, price, not crowded for lunch
Cons: Live music/loud on Saturday night

On a recent night, I decided to head over to the Hornet. I decided to walk, since it's relatively close, about 8 blocks. I had been planning to go and order some food from the late-night menu. When I got there, the doors were locked. A bartender was passing by, and opened the doors to tell me that the restaurant was closing at 11:30 both that night and the next night to work on the floors. I was turned away. I told the bartender that it would have been really helpful if there had been a sign posted during the week so that customers could be informed of the closing. He didn't seem to care, and locked the door. I was at the Hornet two nights before, and there had been no sign, nor had the waitstaff mentioned anything about the closing. The next night, I gave it another try. I went down at 11, since the bartender said the closing was at 11:30. Well, there was a sign on the door now, but the time had been changed--the closing was now 11 pm, not 11:30. I went in anyway, and went to the bar. I waited for about 10 minutes until someone cared to acknowledge me. This was the same as my visit earlier in the week, where I stood waiting for a friend who was late--I waited at least 15 minutes before one of the staff asked me if I needed anything.
Pros: location
Cons: unpolished service, random and unadvertised closings.

If you have someone you want to meet dowtown and don't need a fancy lunch the Hornet is the perfect place. Located on Broadway just south of 6th Ave. it is easy to find and park nearby, sometimes just outside the restaurant. You can order either beef or buffalo burgers, both very good, with sides and 2 condiments. The bread is fresh and large. The service is cordial and the burgers are fixed just as you order them. Sit next the street and get a free show of the local gentry. A quick lunch and you are on your way!

Perfect spot to meet for a snack and a cocktail before or after a show a the Mayan. Just 2 doors down, friendly and fast...and understanding of folks trying to make showtimes.
Pros: easy meeting place
Cons: parking

With gas prices going up good entertainment can be found on two major bus lines. Comfortable, great staff and prices around the lower line. Not so gig, so if going to happy hours get there early, then stay late, because the drink prices only go up marginal. Hang your hat folks!
Pros: Major bus lines., Good prices., Warm feeling.
Cons: Better seats, Needs a brail minue

I know it looks like a bar, but if you get there early in the evening (before 6) this place is a great place for kids. The servers are incredibly tolerant, and it gives mom and dad the sense that they are actually going out to a grown up place. Food is very good too and prices give good value.
Pros: Good for kids, Value is good, Service is excellent
