Great Owner and thats it. I want to love this place or even like it but I can't. I've been there five times trying something new each time hoping to find love but to no avail. It's not terrible by any means (well the BBQ sauce is...like ketchup) but it's just average. You can really tell the owner has put his heart and soul into the place but it's a shame those qualities do not equate to taste.

Charming Owner, Great Brisket. After reading reviews, I knew my family and I had to try this joint while vacationing in Denver. Tried the chicken, ribs and brisket. The chopped brisket in the barbeque sauce was by far the best. Great smokey taste, the barbeque sauce was yummy. The ribs were okay. A bit fatty but overall pretty good. The sauce surely made them better! As noted by other reviewers, the bread is really good. Mr. Wolfe stated that it came from a bakery that is involved with some type of farmers co-op...really a pretty neat story. The carrot salad left something to be desired...overall bland. The cole slaw was pretty good. Not sure how the beans were..didn't get a review from family members on how they were. The overall environment provides a great experience and the company from Mr. Wolfe is great as well. You sure don't find many restaurants anymore that are a one man show...a very unique experience.

Nice Man, Horrible BBQ!. We seen this place driving by while having a craving for BBQ so we decided to try it. The man working, I assume the owner, was very nice and talkative. The atmosphere was good for a small business, there were all kinds of awards on the wall, and so we were expecting great food. The meat was dry, I mean DRY, like it was cooked in the oven. The meat did not taste smoked or really taste like anything. The sauce was mediocre but I have had better from the grocery store. Even the vinegar based coleslaw and tasteless potato salad was no good. The only thing worth while was the bread and butter and a pickle. After reading other reviews on-line, it just isn't clear why we had such an awful experience here. Maybe we came on a bad night or maybe these other reviewers haven't had good BBQ. If you have had good BBQ in your life before, do NOT go here. My dad makes better BBQ than this.

Mr. Wolfe is my BBQ-hero!. It's been months since I was there, even though I live right down the street. Despite being raised in the south, I really don't eat much BBQ, otherwise, I'd be there more often! Me and a friend wandered in close to closing time. Mr. Wolfe was snarky and direct, which we definitely relate to! I'm fairly sure he thought he were completely drunk, when actually we are just that goofy and were sober. We're the two people walking down 17th laughing at vapid girls in their Friday night pony-heels, falling over nothing, and talking to the squirrels. Anyway, he warmed up a bit when we expressed extreme and excessive interest in his grape soda. The meats were very tasty, the ribs a bit more so than the brisket. I'm pretty weird about brisket though, prefering to name guinea pigs after it rather than consume it. I've heard people mention a long wait for food, but mine is always fast! The hours can be a bit odd, either that or I just have the memory of a sea slug (quite possible). On a side note, I like the direct reply he gave to the reviewer from 2007. A lot of businesses spend so much time sucking up they do their customers an actual disservice by not being honest about the reasons for things that may result in disatisfaction.

He's the man. This is my first time ever leaving a reivew for anything- Wolfe's deserves it. My husband claims Wolfe's has the best Tofu he has ever had. I claim that they have the best bbq chicken sandwich that I have ever had. I am a very picky eat and my husband strongly suggested this place to me. The frist time I went, I thought it was "ok" but I feel as though I didn't go with an open mind due to my picky eating. But, I gave it another shot and I am now addicted. We both get cravings more often than not and would rather go to Wolfe's on a Friday night for dinner than anywhere else. His prices are excellent and the service is great as well. You can tell that he appreciates his customers and the business that they provide. My husband and his previous co-worker used to call in orders and just hearing where they were calling him, he remembered them and knew exactly what they wanted to order. Everyone that we have taken to Wolfe's has thoroughly enjoyed their dinner. And even though it is all homemade and a one-man show, the food is very consistent.

Just writing this is making me hungry for a bbq chicken sandiwch. Too bad it is Saturday and he's not open.

Me and everyone else I know that have tried Wolfe's would strongly suggest it. GO GET SOME!

Best BBQ in Denver. This is by far the best BBQ in Denver! I am not sure how it took me so long to disvoer this cap Hill tradition but thank God. Now my favorite place to bring family and in and out of town friends for authentic saucy BBq wirth a personal touch but now I know. So much charm, such great food and a personal friendliness from the owner, delivery or take out I am a fan over and over. Go with the slow cooked beef. I am a BBQ snob and this is SO smoky, spicy and yum.

Ribs were one of the worst I tasted, Beef Brisket was better then the ribs. I don't understand how they get such a high rating. The ribs were lousy, fatty and cool. I have had ribs in many different states and by far these were the worse. Beef Brisket was better then the Ribs but a small portion.

On a other note, while we were there eating a young boy in his teens comes in and asks if they can change a $20.00 bill. The person behind the counter (the way the man talked he sounded like the owner) told the boy that if he wants change it will cost him $2.00. My wife and me both looked at each other, later when we talked we said that we hope all denver businesses are not like this.

I will never visit Wolfe again

For purists seeking smoked pork ribs, Louis Wolfe's tiny Capitol Hill smokehouse is the home of Denver's best bones.. In Short
Politicians, Capitol Hill locals and downtown office workers make up the bulk of the lunch and dinner crowds. The Wolfeman earns his smoking crown with meaty spears that are dense with hickory smoked flavor and moist meat that slides off the bone. Sauce is optional with bones this good, so rib paints are on the side. The smoked tofu is an option for vegetarians.

Best BBQ EVER. If I could eat at Wolfe's everyday I would. Unfortunatly for me I have moved out of state. A reason for me to make a trip back....Wolfe's! The sauce is incredible, the tofu is exquisite, and the atmosphere is perfect. I feel at home, comfortable, and most importantly my stomach is satisfied. All vegetarians should make a point to go to wolfe's. You will become addicted to the flavor and the atmosphere. Everyone have taken there is amazed at how BBQ tofu could be good (that goes for meat eaters!) Thanks Wolfe!
