Poor expierience
by bkosick at Citysearch
My wife and I recently visited MaxFund and attempted to adopted a adorable kitten, named Tiger, we filled out an application to adopt her, and were denied, because we let our other cat outside occasionally. Their reasoning behind this is that an outside animal "MAY" bring home diseases to the adopted cat, or they "MAY" get run over by a car, or "MAY" get injured in a cat fight etc, etc. Life if full of "What If's and May Happens", I "COULD" go to work tomorrow and get run over by a car. Now a cat is a cat, and they like to go outside, which may I point out is their natural habitat, and have lived very happily for millions of years outside, taking their chances with whatever life may dish out.
I may be a little emotional about this right now, and I was even fairly rude to the people at the shelter over the phone, asking if I could squeeze a duck, or hug a tree, to get them to change their minds, and eventually calling their shelter a <blank>hole. For which I do feel bad, they are doing what they, in their misguided minds, feel is right. I would apologize if I felt like ever talking to them again, which I don't. At their shelter, the majority of the cats already have some sort of disease, the majority of which is that respitory infection, and the eye infection that is very common among cats at shelters, and if I brought this adopted cat home, I can garuntee that he would infect my perfectly healty sometimes "outside" cat with it. How's that for logic?
The REAL tragedy here, is that there is now a adorable little kitten, that would have been a loved and well cared for member of our family, sitting is a CAGE wondering why she was not allowed to be adopted by us. I wonder if cats could talk how MaxFund would explain this to her. So, Tiger, I say to you, we really really wanted to adopt you, and would have loved and cared for you with all our hearts.

I got my beautiful akita at maxfund and i am so glad I did. He was on death row at another shelter and thank god he ended up at maxfund. They made the adoption so easy and fulfilling. He is a wonderful dog and I am so thankful to this wonderful shelter.
Very little trust on their part.

My wife and I are new dog owners (through Retriever Rescue of Colorado) and had originally decided to go to Max Fund since the dogs were well cared for. We were all set to adopt a beautiful dog, when we got the news we were rejected. We were surprised, since upon choosing the dog, the initial reading on our part was that we were accepted. Curious as to why, we went back to the shelter to ask why two responsible and loving dog lovers would be denied. On our application, we said the dog would have its own dedicated dog run apart from a big back yard, and when one of us was home the dog would be allowed to go in and out of the house. We failed to mention on the application that when we were gone for 6 hours out of the day, we would keep the dog inside. Since we didn't specify this on the application, the lady in charge of the adoption process said that we were backtracking on our statement and interpreted our statement of the dog's freedom to move in and out of the house when we were home to extend to the time we are not home.
She called the dog run a "cage." even though it is there to prevent runaways. When I mentioned we had a big back yard (something else we did not put on the application since it was not asked) she looked at me like I was lying to her. Later, she accused us of harboring a negligent philosophy towards dogs, what she called the "old philosophy of letting dogs roam free and giving them little attention." This was very upsetting, since she not only tagged us with a philosophy that we don't share, but also insinuated that all the dogs my parents owned must have not been loved or cared for appropriately since they were allowed outside the house. Rather than taking the opportunity to get to know us in person, the adoption lady instead chose to take a paper application as 'gospel" and questioned every statement we made. We hope our could have been dog finds a home and are saddened that the shelter refused the opportunity to get to know us and trust us.

I am so happy with my new adoption from Maxfund. They were a little picky, but I appreciate that and finally I got a cute shelty mix. I love the fact that I have saved this little being and I will give him the best home in the world. Thanks Maxfund!

Maxfund does such a wonderful service in Denver. I got one of our dogs from Maxfund and will always give them money. They are a true no-kill shelter, unlike dumb friends and others. They truly care about the dogs and cats, and you can really tell. When we got Winnie, they were so kind and I could tell they had taken good care of her. They were concerned that we fed her healthy food and they gave us a coupon for a free bath at a local groomer. Please consider Maxfund if you are looking for a friend.
A fun place to volunteer if you like walking dogs, or hanging out with cats.

The dogs love the exercise, and the cats appreciate the attention (although they may not admit it!). And by by giving an amimal some much-needed time with a human, you will increase its chances of quickly being adopted into a loving home.
- Pros: Knowledable staff, friendly environment, parking not a problem.
- Cons: I wanted to take all the cats home with me.
glad to hear it

I just read the first review for maxfund and I have to say I am glad they won't adopt kittes to irresponsible people who let them out. I don't care if they were once wild, they are domisticated now and it is our responsiblity to keep them out of the way of cars and out of the mouths of fox and coyotes!
Good for you maxfund!
