Garbage

by the dog

This place is good for one thing. Serving greasy garbage to drunks.

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: How much time do you have?

Just to let you know

by idodunks

I eat at this restaurant at least 3 times a week and am well known at the place. But this evening i went to get a to go order and there was man by the name of David that was rather rude so i walked out and went and gave my lil 20 dollars to the denver diner. Now that is not alot of money but 7 other people walked out with me when they observed the rudeness.. That is probably 150 dollars that Petes Kitchen didnt get.

  • Pros: Very good food
  • Cons: Davids customer service was terrible

Diner fare, local flair

by writeon1

I enjoy old-fashioned diners on occasion- you know what you're getting- greasy, filling and basically cheap food. At a Greek diner, you also get gyros and Greek salads, which is a nice bonus. But don't kid yourself- the management and staff are just hardworking, tough people who put up with a lot from the drunks and pseudo-hipsters who crawl in at all hours. Yes, I have also seen the cook handle all types of food without washing his hands or sanitizing anything. That's why you shouldn't eat there too often. But Denver doesn't offer a lot of late-night dining options, so I guess we're stuck with this. Pete's got a good thing going and I doubt he's going to change his ways. He's not a nice person and he's very cheap, so...good luck getting him to care about hygiene!

  • Pros: It's an old-fashioned diner
  • Cons: True, it's dirty and Pete is a rude cheapskate

Filthy. Yes, filthy

by utterlybad

Having been a resident of the area for the past two years I have frequented Pete's kitchen numerous times.

No time has been memorable. Just greasy, filling food after a night out.

However, and terribly, after going there on a whim tonight I will never be back. I sat at the bar and witnessed the cook make my "steak" sandwich. Of course you cannot cook to order here. I asked for medium well, but the end product was crisp as molten lava.

This is a side note though. There is an utter lack of hygiene. There was a Greek salad and two club sandwiches made after the cook handled my steak and after he put a burger patty together for another person.

No handwashing in between. Raw meat to veggies. Raw meat to bread. I will never be back and was thoroughly revolted from seeing this.

Don't give them business. Seriously. The guy grabbed a steak then made a salad. He then grabbed raw hamburger meat and made two club sandwiches. Makes me sick to think about it.

  • Pros: cooks handle raw meat then veggies
  • Cons: hygiene

ALMOST as bad as Toms Diner

by denveratnight

my friends went to petes kitchen for the first time last night & were horrified at the rude and slow service, at the greasy grill where i could actually watch the cook sweating into the cooking area of the grill, then wipe of his sweat w/ his hand & sling it off. oh how DISGUSTING. we couldn't wait to get out of there - even the smell of the restaurant was gross. i hope the health inspector reads this, or i may even contact him myself. even thought i saw rodent feces on the floor. DO NOT TO PETE's KITCHEN unless u can put up with what i've written.

  • Pros: none i could find
  • Cons: rude waitstaff, sweaty cooks over our food, slow to even bring beverages, bad smell

If you want to get sick, go to Pete's...

by ndoye

I took my 2 year old for a date at Pete's. We sat at the bar and I watched in horror as the cooks shamelessly used the same spatula to hurl loads of raw meat onto the grill as the one they used to flip grilled cheese sandwiches and make omelettes. Occassionally, they wiped the spatula on a filthy nasty rag that looked like it should be in the pocket of an auto mechanic. When I nicely told the stand-in manager, she gave me a bitchy smurk, as if I was irritating her. I will never set foot in there again. One could so easily get sick from eating anything that comes off that grill. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. The Health Deparment should shut them down, unless they can clean up their act.

Classic Place at 2am

If it is 2am and the bars are closed. Time to head to Pete's for a Breakfast Gyro. Trust me it is what you need.

Low level intelligence

by tcorona

Very low level competence on wait staff and management. myself and a friend were just finished ordering then suddenlly the poor excuse for a manager(which looked as she just rolled around the alley) came over and said I kicked her server. Myself and friend looked at each other in amazement as this never occured. I personally run a retail operation of close to 100 employees. If any of my employees ever said such a thing happened the customer would have immediately been made to leave. This "manager" obviously was being lied to as even after she had the police officer come over, who himself was quite annoyed, she still had no precedent nor the knowledge or experience to handle this said accusation. Very disappointed in the whole occasion. I have been to this location a half dozen times or so & after this occurence I will never be back & will let all others that I network with in the downtown area to make sure to avoid.

Best chicken kebab

by gmerc

My first visit was acually surprising because I thought I was was either on a military base or a police station (with all those cops around) But after we seated the service was amazingly fast, especially for a full house, and the food was freshly made for the right price. You can watch them preparing your food and you can observe the waitress all the time, which gives you a better feeling for the clean and safe way of your food.

The price is right and it is open 24/7.

  • Pros: quick and good tasting food, nice choice on the menu.
  • Cons: in the evening and the weekend always packed, and you better don't have an outstanding warant.

Well worth the wait in line

by themasters15

I have lived in Capital Hill for over 5 years. I like Pets Kitchen as the Servers are down to earth and love to joke with you. Cosy non corporate atsmophere makes it an ideal place to hang out after an even or even just meet for Breakfast, lunch, Dinner, or even a late night snack. One bad thing is there is always a line, no matter what time of day. Well worth the wait though.

  • Pros: Food, Servers, able to watch food being prepaired, lighting, seating
