The most authentic restaurant in Denver

by RachelSimpson1

Like stepping back in time! Food is classic. Service is a bit cranky, but somehow it fits the atmosphere. A truly genuine Denver establishment that is family and neighborhood friendly.

  • Pros: Set your expectations for time warp
  • Cons: absolutely none

Favorite thin-crust pizza

by ptmatthews

This is my favorite thin-crust pizza in town. My husband and I also like the Caesar Salad for Two. We've always found that if you're friendly to the wait staff, they are quite friendly back. Insider tip: if the place is really busy, and there's a long wait for a table, you can go to the kitchen door and order your pizza while you wait. Then it arrives shortly after you're seated.

  • Pros: great pizza, unique atmosphere
  • Cons: limited waiting area

Great Food... and downright cheap

by fxoffroad

This place is one of those places you HAVE to go to. The environment may be outdated... but the service is good and the food great (assuming you've been looking for a local place that won't break the bank and you want to dress casually). Located south of Cherry Creek shopping... this place is great. You never know who will show up... its a local's favorite.

  • Pros: Great Pizza and Great Food
  • Cons: none

Great pizza, everything else second

by tjdenver

First and foremost, the pizza here is awesome. REALLY REALLY good. My top 2 or 3 in town. Really, that's the only reason to go. The place has the ambience of a bowling alley -- a cool historic bowling alley, but still. I've been in twice in the last 6 months, and both times, there were screaming children. We ate quickly, loved the pizza, but didn't linger. Good place for a quality quick bite, and I guess a convenient place for Wash Park dwellers, but not a place I want to hang out for any length of time.

  • Pros: Pizza.
  • Cons: They haven't spruced this place up in 40 years.

The very definition of a mom-and-pop joint, this Cherry Creek favorite is still going strong after almost 70 years.

In Short
Carl and Sue Dire opened this neighborhood restaurant in 1934. Today, it's run by their grandchildren, who long ago pledged to leave things exactly as they have been for the better part of a century. The reward: seven decades of regulars. The menu has everything from meat loaf to spaghetti and meatballs. Crispy-crust pizza comes with tangy sauce and fresh toppings, and the sufficiently greasy burgers taste even better when washed down with a beer.

Bonnie Brae has unquestionably the best pizza in Denver. Everything else is pretty darn good too. GIve it a try and you'll become a regular too.

I have enjoyed Bonnie Brae Tavern's pizza since I was a child. Pizza from Bonnie Brae, Beer/Soda, and a Sunday Broncos game with family... heaven!

Going downhill

by llamaofthesea

This place used to be a regular stop when going out - since we started going there about 4 years ago, the quality has gone down almost every time. Last time our pizza was basically raw dough - we sent it back and got charcoal. They have a great "family" pizza deal on Sunday nights where you get a huge pizza, sodas, dessert pizza, and salad (think bag-o-salad) for around $20 so the declining quality has really hurt. I didn't rate the atmosphere 'cuz some people hate the 50's diner-style while others love it. The no-windows exterior reminds me of the places mom told you not to go to. I feel like I've done something wrong when I order - the servers are just kinda scary. Please stop the decline before it's too late!

  • Pros: Dirt Cheap
  • Cons: Food, Crazy-Eyed Server

Weird but cool

by jdieleuterio

so there are a bunch of folks sayin that this is the best pizza on earth. well i guess they have never been to the east coast. thats a bold statement and should not be taken lightly. yes it is good pizza but it's not the the bees knees. i have to say i dug the pizza. it reminded me of roller rink pizza, which is a guilty pleasure of mine. bonnie brae's pizza blows the chain pizza joints outa the water. it is an odd place, kinda like walkin into a grandparents head. i think everyone should check it out and see for your self. the pizza is worth checkin out. the wait staff is a little odd but so am i so it fit. enjoy. hope this helps.

  • Pros: huge sodas, no wait, dated feel
  • Cons: garlic bread, odd waitress
