HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!
by TreyDouglass
This 'restaurant' is terrible.
I never write restaurant reviews - but my experience at Chubby's was so bad! I love Mexican food, and I'm always up for trying new places - but I blew it this time. I feel like I owe it to other people out there who like Mexican - stay away from this place!
The food itself was incredibly bland - it was spicy, but the spice had very little *flavor*. I had a burrito, and it was the most unexceptional, tasteless meal I've had in a long time. I could (should?) have stayed home and made a better tasting burrito with cheese and tortillas from the grocery store. Seriously. I really wanted to ask for my money back, but I don't like being that guy . I couldn't go without warning other people about this place. I hope no one makes the same mistake I did. If you have ANY other options for eating out - specifically for Mexican - please consider all of them before going to Chubby's. I really hope management reads this review and takes into consideration the quality of their food. I will say that the staff was friendly. The food came out reasonably fast, but IT WAS SO CRAPPY.
Thanks for letting me vent - please do yourself a favor, disregard the other marginally positive reviews you've seen here, and STAY AWAY from Chubby's.
- Pros: the staff was friendly.
- Cons: HORRIBLE, TASTELESS FOOD!
Disappointed with the original Chubby's lately (38th Lipan location)
by Eviela
I've been a long-time fan of Chubbys on 38th Lipan. Since childhood, it's been a treat to go get a smothered burrito or smothered fries. Through the years, they have been consistently delicious. Lately though.....that's not been the case. They've made their portions of food smaller and charged more. The wonderful cheese chili they use sparingly over the burritos. I loved it when they piled on the smothered on the smothered burrito or smothered fries and they don't seem to be doing that anymore...leaving the burrito dry and the fries ....well a bit cheeseless. Maybe the new help haven't got the recipe down quite yet. I don't look forward to going there like I used to. I don't crave it anymore. Please make it good again!!! I'm beggin you.

Hey, Chubby's recently opened a NEW location a couple of miles from this crummy 38th dive...Go to 1-70 and Josephine, right off of 46th avenue. This new location has GOOD SEATING, faster service and better food than the old place. I hope Citysearch adds it to their list soon, and that Chubby's closes their old take-out only place on 38th...
- Pros: Good enchiladas
- Cons: 38th Ave. location appeares to be take-out only. New 46th location has seating.
Great Place

Always busy. If you don't mind waiting a little bit, you will be delighted with a wonderful, and SPICY meal. Their green chili smothered burritos are probably the spiciest in town. Nothing special in the way of their food, just standard fare, but a good deal for what you get. And, I don't know what the other posters are saying when they say it's in a seedy location. I live a block up the street and find the neighborhood just fine. It's no Cherry Creek; it's Sunnyside. There is plenty of parking.
Avoid the burgers and soggy fries. Go to Burger King two blocks down the street if you are craving a burger.
Quite possibly the best late-night food.

I have loved Chubby's for years. The location on 38th and Lipan has the best food by far (i've had them all). Amazing Chili, great service (especially if you're a regular), great price, but a seedy location... the parking is terrible, too. Despite the few negative aspects, this place is THE place to go if it's 1:00 in the morning and you have the munchies. Of coarse it's great for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, but I tend to find myself there late at night with a hinkering for my two favorite items... smothered fries and mexican hamburger special. If you find yourself in Denver, then you owe it to yourself to check out the infamous late-night hot spot - Chubby's.
- Pros: Amazing food, Great Service, Open until 3:00 AM
- Cons: Always busy, Seedy location, Terrible parking
Clean this place up, use real cheese
by denver88
Tasteless food, cheese is like plastic, and, above all, clean up the eating area. Boring food.
UNBELIEVABLE

THIS COULD BE THE BEST PLACE TO EAT IN DENVER. I HAVEN'T FOUND ANOTHER PLACE THAT COMES EVEN CLOSE TO WHAT CHUBBY'S OFFERS. ALTHOUGH THE ONE ON 38TH IS IN A BAD LOCATION, IT IS WORTH THE DRIVE.
Out of this world

When I first moved to Denver someone told me about Chubbys. They asked me if I liked green chile, of course I said 'yes.' I went to the Chubby's on 38th and Lapan. I odered the smothered fries with green chile and chicharones and it was something that I fell in love with. I lived in Denver for five years and thats what I ate just about every Friday. I would have to say if the owners of Chubby's was to make one in Dallas, Tx it would be a great success. Keep up the good work!
- Pros: good food, goood price, good service
- Cons: to little, not enough parking, no deliver service
