Not bad, but wouldn't pay again

by xstineonthescene

So we are always looking for good places to eat, and the food was average. I got the chicken marsala and the sauce was way to thick for the noodles. My boyfriend got the chicken parmasean, and even though that's not my favorite - it was still pretty good. The homemade noodles ARE delicious though! I would definitely come back and eat here, but not pay for it....

  • Pros: homemade noodles
  • Cons: service was extremely slow

Great times at Patsy's

by patasverdes

This was the first time that we had ever gone to Patsy's. We read the reviews prior to going and almost didn't go. THANK GOD WE DIDN'T PAY ATTENTION TO THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS!!!!!!!! We encountered nothing but excellent service, FABULOUS, well priced food and the an overall awesome night. My father insists that the food is just as good "if not better" than it was in 1963, the last time he was there. My entire family and I HIGHLY recommend Patsy's and will definately be back regularly.

Grazie!

FYI try the Chicken Parmigiana!!!!

  • Pros: Very well priced, Amazing food!
  • Cons: parking

great food, abysmal service at the bar

by heatherfrey

I have always enjoyed the food at Patsy's. The service in the restaurant has always been reasonable but I was horrified by the service that I encountered while sitting at the bar one evening. We opted to eat at the bar rather than wait for a table one evening. The bartendered was an older woman who I think has been working there for a very long time, apparently long enough that she thinks she can treat patrons horribly and get away with it. She ignored us when we tried to order our drinks, was stand-offish and rude and looked irritated if we asked her a question. After ordering our food we sat for an hour without it coming. We finally inquired and she looked so angry because we interupted her while she was counting her tip money. She gave us a gruff remark and went back to counting her tips. After sitting there for what seemed like an eternity we finally just asked to take our food to go. She glared at us and stated "I don't know if I can do that, it might be too late." I have no idea what "too late" was supposed to mean. We waited for another 25 minutes, still no food. We asked again if our food was ready she made another remark about it being too soon and we asked her to please go back and check anyway. She returned promptly with our food in a bag. I'm sure it had been sitting there ready for us the entire time we waited. I love Patsy's food & it's been my favorite place to go for a long time. The horrible treatment by this burntout, tired bartender single-handedly made me never want to return, despite how much I love everything else about that place. Service counts for a lot especially when times are tight & people are counting pennies & choosing to eat out less. She should be counting her blessings she even has a job instead of taking it for granted by treating long time patrons so terribly. There's probably 100 unemployed servers out there that would love to have a job & would run circles around her. She ought to be fired.

  • Pros: great food
  • Cons: horrible service at the bar

A throw back

by johnsmith80211

We have gone to Patsy's many times over the years and were surprised by the negative reviews. So, we wanted to see if it had really gone down hill. From what we can tell, everything is the same. I don't claim to be an expert on Italian food, but, I thought the food was really good. I have tried the others in the area and I think they make some of the best pasta which I think is saying a lot considering The Highlands used to be the old Italian area. We didn't know what to think of their home made noodles when we first tried them, but, when we were finished I thought they were the best I had ever had and I still think that. The Calamari was excellent but the dipping sauce was even better. The Trout is signature dish which I highly recommend. Overall, we always enjoy our experience at Patsy?s

  • Pros: good pasta and a throwback
  • Cons: could use a coat of fresh paint

A meal I hope to forget.

by blakecarrington

I figured the last couple reviews were just bad luck - the place still has a good reputation, and besides - it was listed in a recent Westword "Best Of". Boy was that a mistake.

The bread was good. The Garlic Bread was even better, but really - a monkey could make garlic bread.

I got the old fashioned (or something) spaghetti. Noodles were overdone & watery, and the sauce was bland and seemed to be filled with nothing more than pureed meat product. Seriously, the first thing that came to mind when I got it was that I'd had that meal before - about 1000 times when my grandparents took me to the Sizzler when I was 5 and I got the pasta off the kiddie menu. My girlfriend got the chicken cacciatore - again underwhelming. The chicken was a (previously frozen?) boneless breast cooked and even cut into little squares. Are you kidding?

The ice water was pretty good. And like I said, the bread was ok. Other than that, if you're looking for a meal, head anywhere else.

  • Pros: Free ice water?
  • Cons: The Food. All of it.

Never Again!!!

by kudvas

A group of 10 of us went to Patsy's before a party and I will never go back. Our waiter was probably the most incompetent person I have had the displeasure to meet. If our food was at least great, it would have maybe salvaged the evening, but alas, it was average at best.

Our waiter was slow from start to finish but the kicker came when I asked for the check. He said he would be right back. 10 minutes went by and no check. He kept serving and waiting on people all around us. I asked again and he said "two minutes". Another 15 minutes went by. At this point, we are getting pretty upset because we were just waiting with no water or drinks of any kind. I asked again and he said "just a minute". After 35 minutes, we finally got the check. He added the gratuity in! No wonder he gave us poor service, he knew he was getting a tip no matter what! My girlfriend asked that he take the tip out because we waited 35 minutes just to get our check. He said he would take care of it and took our card and cash. He came back out and gave us the same bill and said he could not do anything but for us to come back and he would "take care of us". Are you kidding??? There is no way any of us are going back there and I would not recommend that place to anyone EVER. Go to Pagliacci's if you are in the area. The prices may be higher but the service and food are 10X better then Patsy's.

  • Pros: The decor is very old school
  • Cons: SERVICE!!!

Rude Service

by kleehoward

It would have been a very pleasant evening and good food had not been for the bartender. My friend and I had dinner and drinks at the bar and were treated very poorly. For example, when I got up to use the restroom, it was obvious to the bartender I was looking for it yet he said nothing. When I asked him where it was, he said it was "probably" through the dining room to the left. When ordering our food, we asked for vodka sauce; he replied very rudely that is not what they call it there, but sure. He never once offered to fill up our waters. Overall, just a strange, rude vibe.

Denver's Little Italy still hides some of the city's best cheap Italian fare.

by Contributor

In Short
Founded before World War II, Patsy's holds fast to the old charm and homemade pasta that helps keep the eatery alive. While it may not be the best Italian food in town, this unpretentious spot is an undeniable bargain. The spaghetti is a favorite entree--and it's even better with sausage and peppers or gigantic meatballs. After dinner, customers can satisfy sweets cravings with a cannoli smothered in whipped cream and drizzled with chocolate.

The Real Italian American Deal

by panchosrevenge

Patsy's has that old Italian American charm, location, and tasty Italian-American food without all the hype and expense of the "wannabe" Italian places in Denver, and is far and away a better value and more fun than any Italian chain restaurant. The pasta has that "made in Chicago" taste, unlike some of the bland crap in many Denver establishments. The sauce is spicy and tasty, and most dishes are well-prepared and plenty of food for the price. Best of all is the 1920s ambiance, complete with the "Wise Guys" back room with a one-way mirror behind the bar, a classic 1920s touch for a historic Denver Italian spot. Forget Macaroni Grill or those pretentious Lodo places- this is the real deal!

  • Pros: ambiance, value, food quality
  • Cons: average service
