Romantic Birthday Dinner!
by lorenkan
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal to celebrate my birthday. It was the most romantic restaurant we have been to yet in Denver and the food was awesome! I had filet mignon and sea scallops and my husband had just sea scallops with risotto. Both choices were excellent! We also had the pancetta wrapped prawns with polenta for an appetizer, caesar salad and the chocolate torte and lemon ice-box (both deserts were quite delicious). I highly recommend this restaurant!
- Pros: Great food, great ambience! Very romantic!
- Cons: None
Uniquely beautiful decor, consistently excellent food and wine, terrific service. We go often!

My family has eaten here a few times a year for the last seven years. We go when we want to guarantee ourselves a beautiful but also cozy meal. I last ate at the Wellshire Inn in December 07. As always, it was decorated in a classy but comfortable English style. I had a great filet mignon, juicy and tender, and a fine pinot noir. I sampled the meatloaf, new york strip, and grilled salmon that my family had ordered. All excellent.
The staff, as always, was knowledgeable, friendly, professional, and warm.
I've lived for years in New York and New Haven, CT, both great restaurant cities, and the Wellshire Inn stands out to me as one of my favorite places to dine. And it's very reasonably priced.
This place is a gem!
- Pros: Great food and fancy but cozy decor. Professional, friendly service. Good price.
- Cons: None.
Beware the brunches

Ate there late in the day in April 2006. The food had been sitting out for what appreared to have been hours, cheese table was spoiled. We have had better buffet food at Country Buffets before. About half the food was dried out and some of it was not labeled. They had salad dressing next to white gravy so it made for interesting combinations. Management was told and they ignored our complaints. We feel we wasted a lot of money. Far too many good restaurants in Denver so skip this one.
- Pros: Service
- Cons: Food Quality, Management
Elegant and gracious, this former country club offers seasonal selections ranging from salads and vegetarian dishes to steaks.

The Scene
The dining rooms at this elegant restaurant are lavishly gothic, with stained-glass windows and exposed-beam ceilings. The booths and one-armed chairs are living-room comfortable, although some tables tend to be cramped. Business crowds and well-heeled diners nibble at the tables and chat at the bar as piano music tinkles in the background.
The Food
Seasonal selections are plentiful, but perennial favorites abound, including traditional marinated rack of Colorado lamb, spice-crusted New York steak and pan-seared shrimp and scallops. There are also seasonal lunch menus and vegetarian choices. Sunday brunch is unlike anything else in Denver, with choices such as spicy roasted corn, salmon cakes and sourdough French toast. Decadent dessert options include a pear turnover, traditional and espresso-flavored creme brulee, creme brulee-flavored cheesecake, chocolate torte and tiramisu.
Spectacular Meal

I had dinner there on May 31, 03 and had a wonderful dining experience. The food and service were absolutely great!
I wondered if it would be old and traditional food and was very pleasantly surprised with the menu mix of old favorites and new dishes.
