Good beer, VERY inconsistent service
by Dan0
I really like these guys' beer. I think most all the choices are good, sometimes great.
That being said, their food is all-around decent. Nothing great. The menu is aiight. It is limited and most of the choices are sub-par. The fish&chips are fine, the burgers are great....and that's all I got. The rest is too inconsistent to comment further upon.
I've been to this place about 10 times and I would say that I've had great service one time, acceptable service 2 times, and UNACCEPTABLY HORRIBLE service the other 7 times. I wish I were exaggerating, but I'm not. The service here is very inconsistent, usually horrible. It's been so bad that I would suggest you visit it once so you can taste the beer. You'll find that you won't want to return to these people.
TIP TO THE OWNERS: Fire/rehire your wait staff and figure out the inconsistent kitchen as well. . . carry on with your beer.
- Pros: Beer, Burgers
- Cons: Service, Menu, Inconsistency
Lousy waitress/service/food
by DorieN
We have gone there as a group every Sunday night for dinner and jazz music. The last time, we got horribly burned quesadillas, burned to charcoal. when we told the waitress, she very snottily said "that is the way they're supposed to be" and walked away. We know what burned is; we have ordered those dozens of times. I'm not sure we'll go back, and if we do, it won't be for food.
- Pros: good jazz music
- Cons: terrible service
Bad Service
by bareimann
My family has been visiting this restaurant since it opened. My Dad went on his first date with my mother here. We visit on a weekly basis and I often bring friends in for Happy Hour and to introduce them to the neighboorhood pub.
Lately the service has not been great and in today's world, customer service is important. Tonight we went to celebrate my brother's graduation from High School. Unfortunately, we had poor service from start to finish. Our server started off by telling us that the drinks we ordered had to made a certain way. We stated, "the bartender is used to our drink order and does a great job at making them." She then told us that she is usually the bartender and tonight she was serving 'unfortunately because someone couldn't find a babysitter.' We knew right off the bat she was having a bad night.
After our food came out, we noticed we were out of ketchup. We asked if we could get some more and were told "no problem." Several minutes passed with no server in sight. My Dad decided to ask the next table to borrow ketchup before the burgers were cold. The server scolded him for asking saying "sir, your ketchup is coming your server is really busy." Yikes!
To finish it out, our bill was incorrect and our server proceeded to argue with us over it.
I hope that the service will improve here or that 'management' will find a better team of servers!
- Pros: Great Owneres
- Cons: Inconsistant Service
Poor quality brews and horrible service...
by brewtron
First, let me explain that I brew beer and consider myself relatively knowledgeable on the subject. I'm not a professional brewmaster, however. With that in mind, I think the beer they serve at this place is just plain bad. I ordered their ESB and it had so much diacetyl contamination that it tasted like I was eating a rotted stick of butter. Their pale ale suffered from the same problems, but to a lesser extent. Diacetly is common in ales, but the levels in these beers were WAY over those I would consider acceptable. If I had brewed this beer, it would have gone stright down the drain. This type of defect can be caused by bacterial/fungal contamination in the fermenters or high fermentation temps and no 'rest' period to allow the yeast to consume the diacetyl (i.e.: rushing the beer to the glass before its time).
The service here was also terrible. We met some friends here on a Friday afternoon and our waitress was slow, inattentive and rude. She actually had the nerve to bring us the check and, before anyone asked, she stated in a very condescending tone that she wouldn't split the bill because everyone was 'swapping' beers all night. In reality, none of us swapped beers, so I can only assume she was upset that some of us had multiple different varieties. Her general lack of customer service was frightening. I'm typically a heavy tipper at 20%+, but this girl was lucky if she got 5% from the table because others were so offended.
I ate the fish & chips, which was OK, but tasted like it had come from the freezer section at Walmart. The taste was comparable to Mrs. Paul's fish sticks. Certainly not 'the best fish and chips in Denver', as they advertise. More like TV dinner-quality.
Overall I was disappointed and will not return to this joint. Bad beer, poor customer service and mediocre food sums up my experience. I hope this review saves someone out there from the disappointment we experienced.
- Pros: Atmosphere is OK
- Cons: Bad beer, poor service and mediocre food
Worst Dining Experience in Denver
by iheartpotatoes
In 10 years of dining out in Denver, I experience the worst dinner ever. There are three meals that no one should be able to screw up: potato skins, mac and cheese and quesadillas. Last night, I had potato skins that were old, cold and inexplicably burned on the bottom. My husband ordered a steak that was dry as beef jerky and yet still cooking when it arrived. My chicken sandwich was charred and tiny, taking up only half of the bun.
Not to be outdone by the horrible food, the service was terrible and we had to actually grab our waiter's leg to get his attention to order a beer. The ambiance wasn't - it is a pub trying to be a sports bar or a sports bar trying to be a pub, but it can't be both. The clientelle seemed suburban with a lot of kids, which was surprising given the over-priced fare. The worst part of the meal was not the restuarant's fault - the foursome next to us was so drunk they were screaming and annoying the entire dining room. Even the crying children were drowned out by the harping voice at the table next to us. We left $50 poorer without eating the charcoal served to us and went to another bar for an amazing, juicy and still pink $3.50 burger.
All talk, no substance.

They do a good job of dressing the place up like a "British Pub". The food and ale however, leave much to be desired.
Love the ambiance

We had a group of 20+ and I can't say enough good things about the place. The British pub feel was great, it wasn't too noisy, the food looked good, the waiter seemed OK with seperate checks, and the Allgood beer was great. Probably my favorite bar in Denver now.
Great fries but don't plan to have a large gathering here (even 5+)...
by cstott79
Amusing sidenote: Citysearch just refused my first version of this review for using the full name of the establishment! I had to reduce to "B&B" to get it accepted :)
I used to come here all the time for the burgers, fries, and beers. Having 1-2 people was always pretty easy. The waitstaff aren't the friendliest and it's not cool when you arrive during a time when they have the whole "stage" area set aside for a bad jug band, but all in all, not a bad place.
But try to hold a small gathering of people and you're s.o.l! They won't reserve you a table, even though you've just guaranteed them some major income (groups drink more than 1-2 people and a reservation is a guarantee). And don't bother trying to come in on a Friday or Saturday with a group of 5-10 or more -- it's impossible to get a seat at a large round table since there are few and the place is usually packed.
So there goes my guaranteed 12 person huge dinner and drinks bill paid to B&B. Until they can take a reservation, I'll take my business elsewhere.
- Pros: Food, beers
- Cons: Service, crowd
Not for Parties, or good service - don't even try
by politicalplant
In trying to host a gathering here I found the person in charge of large parties the most rude, unhelpful person I have ever spoken with. Even with offering to pay what they would make in a night simply to allow my guests to drink and mingle throughout the bar, she simply replied "We can't do that." Obviously they are not in the business of pleasing their customers. I thought the place was unique when I went there to scope it out. But, they were out of my 2 top beer choices, and it took over an hour from the time we ordered to receive our food, and when we were ready to pay and leave the waitress mysteriously disappeared. If you're short on time or a group bigger than 2 find another place to go.
- Pros: Unique building and decorating
- Cons: Everything else but the building and decorations
