the service is terrible SOMETIMES. I've been here countless times. im a vegetarian and this is the best vegetarian mexican food in denver, hands down. sometimes the service is okay, sometimes its HORRIBLE! i actually had to go BACK into the kitchen one time to get the guy and get out of there. when i found him back there, he was on his cell phone! hahahahahha... not amusing, i was in a hurry at that point.. In all honesty, ill probably go back anyway, because i love to customize the chongas.. potatoe, tofu, beans, coliflour= righteous.
you just gotta be pushy. if you're not prepared to be a pushy and track down your server and/or do their job for them, i wouldn't reccomed it..
- Pros: awesome vegetarian mexican food
- Cons: HORRIBLE staff, and gross ambience..

Amazing food - If your one in a rush this is not the place to go.
Pretentious snobs need not apply nor welcome. More for me!
Looks like I'm not the only one...

Here I thought I was going to write an original review. The service was the worst I have ever experienced. It was like something out of the twilight zone. And when I didn't think things could get any stranger, one of the employees (maybe even the owner, who knows) comes out, flops down at a table, puts his feet up on another chair and lights up a cigarette! (yes we were outside but still!) I'm not sure if the hostess could talk. And our waitress seemed nice enough but was completely incompetent (no napkins, water, check-back, to-go box, etc...). Oh yeah, and they had 80's music cranked up too! What a crazy experience! I'm an easy going guy but this place was just plain nuts.
Yeah, they have an decent vegetarian selection, but who cares. Vegetarians, go somewhere else!
- Pros: Not enough to outweigh the cons...
- Cons: EVERYTHING
AMAZING green chile, horrible servers...

I would never go there if I were looking for good service. However, when I'm looking for waiters and waitresses to ignore me, but eventually deliver me a plate of amazing New Mexican food, this is the place I go. Not only do they offer all the traditional mexican plates, but also a FULL MENU dedicated to vegetarians! The margaritas are made fresh, and they're always delicious. If you order the extra-hot green chile, expect to be wiping tears and breathing flames for a while. Overall the experience is good, but the food in itself is just delicious! Such great flavors! I would suggest the chicken rellenos, or some of the interesting vegetarian items like the potato, asparagus, tofu burrito!!
- Pros: green chile flavor, full vegetarian menu, karaoke!!
- Cons: service is awful
one word "customer service"
by angras
lucky for this place the food is good and nothing else about this place is satisfactory at all. we brought in family from out of town here and the food took forever-on top of that they brought out food for only two of us. then had the guts to not come back to table for about another 15min with the other food. when we asked to talk to the owner about the poor service, he refused to talk to us and made the waitress tell us he just stepped out. (when we all know he is always there at the end of the bar drinking.) yeah you fooled us. we had been coming there for a couple of years granted the service sucked but the food was the only thing keeping us coming back, but seriously who treats customers like that.
- Cons: customer service
Great food, but service is hit or miss
by domingo_x
A New Mexican spin on "typical" dishes. There are a wide variety of vegetarian options as well. Chips and salsa are also unique in that there are 4 sauces...however they're not free!
Beer and mixed drink selection is okay, but nothing special.
Prices are average, but be aware that there's a hefty auto-gratuity for 4 or more people. While normally not a big deal, the service is VERY hit or miss. They've had a revolving door of waiters and waitresses that have varied from friendly and fast, to barely speaking english and unable to add.
If you're not in a rush or if you're served by the owner, this restaurant is terrific and highly recommended. It's only too bad that the service is so bad that it keeps the restaurant from being as appealing as Mezcal or Croc's, in spite of better food.
- Pros: Excellent Food, Vegetarian options, Unique
- Cons: SERVICE.
Great hole in the wall

The food and atmosphere is to die for - not TexMex really but something more western (not quite authentic Mexico). The SERVICE, however, is totally hit and miss. Either fantastic or nonexistant to the point of keystone kops.
- Pros: atmosphere, food, bar (1st rate)
- Cons: , location, smoke-filled
Tasty Food but Terrible Service
by libbylaine
Not a bad restaurant if you can tolerate bad service but good, affordable eats. I used to go there quite a bit until the service on certain nights out of the week became bad (I think staff was cut back). I still go occasionally, because the food is worth it. Yeah to the 1/2 veggie and 1/2 carivore menu!
- Pros: Good Food, Inexpensive, Decent Seating
- Cons: Bad Service
5 Star Mexican Dining

If you love vegetarian food, you will love Alexander's. There are hundreds of combinations you can make for burritos and other Mexican fare. I personally order a burrito filled with beans, egg, mushrooms, potatoe and garlic. My girlfriend orders the burrito releno which is a huge green chile stuffed with cheese then peppered with refried beans and wrapped into a tortilla. It's like eating candy. By far the best tasting burritos either of us has ever had. Go for the taste and create your own dish if you want. All the food is excellent.
- Pros: vegetarian food, chips and salsa, price
- Cons: parking, location
