Seems to be in decline

by allyko at Citysearch

We joined the club just over a year ago. Since then, the cost of membership has increased 3-4% which I think is okay ...but the cost of my locker rental has increased 40% to $57 per month. The pilates and yoga classes are jam packed. Don't even think of relaxing at the pool - this place is a ZOO! This club clearly has not capped the number of memberships they are jamming in there - or maybe they are just not proficient in math. They gave us approximately 10-15 guest passes when we signed up and I got the biggest hassle at the front desk the first time I tried to use one. Apparently "front desk revenue" is down and they now frown on use of a pass. What - did I manufacture a fake pass for our out of town guest? The front desk is one notch above a total joke. There have been many break-ins in the parking lot, and the club seems to put the oweness on members rather than doing better with security. The "Sanctuary Day Spa"...it is anything but, sub-par atmosphere and service. Do not spend your money on these spa services - go to a real day spa. Bottom line is that this club is falling apart - the physical wear is evident in the less than sparkly facilty (though the seem to be continually remodeling) and the management is poor - dropping the ball time and time again on member service in lieu of another chance to nickel-dime. The positive marks I will give this club is that they have hired some skilled and caring personal trainers, who are more than happy to help you develop a personalized fitness program. There is a wonderful and welcoming woman running the cafe. There are also some very nice members we've had the pleasure to meet. We are still members, but have been very disappointed and are looking actively to join a new club. It has the potential to be a truly nice club, but the management approach guarantees that it will consistently fall short. Do you know who your paying members are? Do you care?

member for 17 years and won't go anywhere else!

by bigbeautifulworld at Citysearch

my husband and i have been members for 17 years. the club has consistently kept its programs, classes and facilities current with, or ahead of, other facilities in town - and for a reasonable monthly fee. anybody who says they are bored with their workout should come here. in any given week i swim, take a class, lift weights, get a pedicure. there are plenty of choices to keep my workout from getting boring. the members are generally friendly (i have met some of my best friends here over the years) and, unlike some clubs, it isn't just a social place, it is a workout place. the cell phone and TV policy is very much appreciated and keeps this club feeling more like a relaxing personal experience rather than one more part of a stressful day. also, the addition of a nice family changing room and the great kids pool facilities give space to the families and the singles.

on the down side, there is inconsistency with some of the member services - the guest policy, for example. it would also be great if there were an option to buy gift certificates for three month trial memberships, for example. these would be the perfect Christmas gift for family and friends. I have asked for this, but it has never materialized. i had some trouble with spa gift certificates a few years ago, and, although the current spa management seems more stable, I probably won't give any of those as gifts as a result.

  • Pros: full service club w/ all the amenities. give it 4 1/2 stars
  • Cons: the guest policy could use some clarification and some work.

After a year of membership, here are my thoughts...

by jtaylor379 at Citysearch

I've been a member for a little over a year now. The new outdoor pool is simply fantastic. Their Kids Club is the best gym child care in the city - changing tables are in the public area and kids of different ages are separated. They do their best to handle my cloth-diapered baby and feed him for me as well. There isn't a lot of turnover in the Kids Club which I appreciate. However, it is expensive! $7-9 per visit for either a 90 or 120 minute stay. I really wish they had a 60 minute option for those days when I want to get in and out fast. It doesn't seem like a lot, but if you work out a considerable amount you can easily double your monthly membership fees. So, my membership is more like $225 a month including child care, and only I am a member - not my husband. Wow!!!

The family locker room is perfect, the class schedules are great with many options and wonderful instructors. The facility is beautiful and I very much appreciate how improvements are always being made. I also love the frequency of special classes/workshops at no additonal cost. However, I must say I was incredibly annoyed when they started charging $5 for stroller exercise class. I told the coordinator - so I have to PAY to watch my own child? Hardly makes sense... No worries, though, I prefer to pay for somebody else to watch him and relax in the steam room afterwards.

Since I've been a member they've redone the outdoor pool, added family locker rooms, redone the women's showers and are regrouting/tiling the steam room. It's impressive.

Some of the membership tactics are very frustrating, however. I was given a handful of guest passes that were begrudgingly accepted and then they were voided because they went "electronic." My husband's IBM corporate discount doesn't apply to me, and we had to talk to other IBMers to coordinate and see whether the discount was being given - which it WAS, but which we were told by membership "there aren't enough people for IBM right now." Ugh...

While I'm satisfied with CCAC I continue to look elsewhere to see if there's a better fit for our family. I'm investigating the Ritchie Center at DU for the moment ($135/mo for an entire family which INCLUDES child care), but I will likely stick with CCAC because of the outdoor pool for the kiddos in the summer and the fantastic (and expensive) child care.

  • Pros: Outdoor Pools, Large Schedule of Classes
  • Cons: Cost for Kids Club & Attitude

LOVE this place!

by flyingataslant at Citysearch

I was a member when I was single and now I'm a member as a parent. The new, separate locker room for families is great--thank you! I love going to the fabulous adult only locker room when I'm without kids to soak in the whirlpool in silence AND I appreciate having a raucous family dressing room with the kids so I don't have to worry about stressing any single gals out! The classes and staff are terrific and the facilities are top notch.

  • Pros: Amazing classes, new separate changing rooms for families

Not worth the money

by dmassana at Citysearch

I've been a member for many years and the price per month at this club just keeps sky rocketing, without a coinciding improvement in services. The price seems high even for a botique club. Pieces of equipment (particulary stationary bikes) is frequently missing or in poor repair. The representatives that rope you into membership are nice, but the membership office staff is less than helpful and can be down right rude when it comes to questions about cancellation. You can never get membership office on the phone, only a answering machine message. Then when you actually go to the office and ask about cancellation they, tell you that it should have been done the month before and charge you an extra months fees.

I just quit

by writeon1 at Citysearch

I was a member for one year. While I liked the classes very much, I feel that the scheduling and pricing leaves something to be desired. There is no question that the staff is very dedicated and generally friendly and helpful but there is a very snotty attitude exhibited by some of them, as well as the membership. In some of the reviews on this site, people were talking about the economic downturn benefitting the club. I'm sick of arrogant rich people thinking that the world belongs to them. It doesn't. Just because you can afford the $109++ a month to belong to this club, doesn't give you the right to behave boorishly. Simply put, this club's recruitment and retention efforts leave a lot to be desired. They don't offer affordable, monthy packages and the last class on any night is at 6:45. For those of us who actually work, it is difficult to make a 5:30 class, even though it might be something that interests us. Additionally, I don't need all of the fru-fru in the locker rooms. I just want to work out and not break the bank for the privilege! Clearly, CCAC just isn't interested in attracting anyone but rich housewives and their spoiled brats, nannies in tow...I just don't need the attitude.

  • Pros: Pool, indoor track, interesting classes
  • Cons: Scheduling of classes is unreasonable, parking is a nightmare and the cost is ridiculous

Love it!

by Coloradogal12 at Citysearch

I came on the site to share my thoughts on this wonderful facility, and frankly, I am shocked at some of these negative reviews! I have been a member for almost a year now and I have never encountered anything but the best from both the staff and the facilities alike. I have an injured knee, so when I signed up for membership, one of sales people hooked me up with a free session with a personal trainer who specializes in injuries. Both the sales person and personal trainer were incredibly professional and attentive.

Since then, I have used the 3 pools for my own aqua therapy, and now I come to the club 3-5 times a week! I LOVE the classes. If you want a great workout with exceptional instructors, I recommend comming for the spinning and Bosu Conditioning classes. I am also getting into Yoga now and I feel like I am reaching a ton of goals that I probably never would have on my own!. Also, I could never end a workout without relaxing in the sauna, hot tub, or steam room. In short, I simply feel like a million bucks whenver I leave this place.

I never write reviews like this, but I really felt obligated to hand the CCAC some much derseved praise! LOVE IT!

A wonderful place to be

by Rideenglish at Citysearch

You know reading the past few reviews reminds me of all of the negative and unpleasant people in the world.

It seems that this Club is a great facility in constant improvement. The management Dennis, Stan, Lori

and of course Daren have worked OT to meet the demands of this five star club. For those of us that appreciate a Club that offers one of the finest aquatics set ups, hundreds of pieces of state of the art equipment( even with TV monitors on each), this is one fine place.

I have rarely seen a more responsive staff constantly catering too and picking up after some of those same

unpleasant few. Any business / Club serving what must be 100's upon 100's of people in a day needs to serve the majority and hopefully Cherry Creek will continue to do just that, at the same time weeding out those few bad apples that unfortunately can ruin the whole barrel.

As our economy heads for a downturn, I hope that this Club can continue to put money into improvements. Our economy will also serve to remove those that are only on the economic fringe looking to be unhappy and uninspired by such dynamic business. Those that are concerned about fitness, and a fully certified staff are the ones that should be at this Club. I have been a Member for five years and have been very happy. This Club is the best of breed, and is doing just great!

- Best Aqautics in the City.

- Great little Day Spa

- Great Pilates Studio

  • Pros: Well managed, professional, energetic staff
  • Cons: Parking sometimes (peak hours)

Best birth control around

by georgiav344 at Citysearch

Cherry creek athletic club continues to lose members on a daily basis due to the fact that during the entire spring and summer and some fall they have screaming kids running allover the place. I left in june when I couldn't take it anymore. I am not kidding, it is terrible. They have these supposed rules about conduct and where kids are supposed to be, but it is far from reality. The locker room is filled with them screaming, getting into the hot tub (which is supposedly not allowed) and in the showers. Nothing like a nice peaceful shower after yoga!!!

The parents of these kids truly act like they own the place. You ask them to make some room for a paying member and perhaps move their blowup pool toys and they act like you have just taken their first born.

I made several complaints to the management and they did NOTHING about it.

If you have little monsters or enjoy that type of environment when you are working out and "relaxing" at the pool, then this is the club for you.
