Astonished, in a bad way
by cam_marie
My girlfriends and I went in for dinner after looking up the menu online. Come to find out, their actual menu was not the same as the online menu, had far less choices. We were planning on using a $25 coupon, in fact it was the only reason we went. We were told we could not use it . When I asked to speak to a manager the waiter told me that he was not around, when I pressed him, he said "Let me see if I could find him". Eventually someone who looked like a cook came out who could barely speak English. When i told him the issue he literally WALKED AWAY and never came back! We waited 30 minutes and got so fed up, we paid the bill and walked out. Will never go there again.
- Pros: none
- Cons: customer service
Horrible. I mean horrible service July 30 09
by dvrpostuser
Just went to Opal for the 2nd time on July 29th 09. Ordered 2 drinks that took 20 mins to arrive. Ordered some sushi and oysters. 1 order of Sushi came out before our drinks...after waiting 50 mins, we cancelled our order and left...with a 47 cent tip!
Who owns this place? Do they read these reviews? If you go, go at 4 when nobody is there and I imagine you'll get your food in a reasonable amount of time. I can't believe this place is still in business. Oh, and the bathrooms....disgusting. Do they ever clean them? The city needs to insect this place.
- Pros: 1 dollar Corona, 1 dollar oysters
- Cons: Cheap price if you don't mind waiting 30 mins for a drink
bad food, worse service, repulsive bathroom
by chelseystillman
The wait staff took over an hour to get 3 hand rolls of sushi, messed up our bill, took 45 minutes to give us our bill and did not apologize or offer to comp one thing for us. They were horribly understaffed and the waitress brough us the wrong food, forgot our drinks then messed up our bill. Then there's the mayonaise heavy hand rols which were so unappealing we didn't even want to take our left overs home. Avoid this place like the plague, because odds are you will get the plague from the gnarly bathroom
- Pros: cheap but narrow happy hour
- Cons: service, food, bathroom, parking
WHAT A JOKE
by blueboi97
TERRIBEL SERVICE...FOOD WAS OK....FOUL MOUTHED EMPLOYEES!!!! This was my first time to the joke of a place and everyone that ate there was upset and the servers were cussing and using foul laguage in the back but was loud enough for everyone to hear! NEVER AGAIN!
- Pros: NOTHING GOOD ABOUT THIS PLACE
Ripoff!!!

5280 week is when you try to strut your stuff and impress. Not these guys. For them it was a numbers game. Pack as many people in as possible and lie to everyone about what you are offering on your menu. We went for the lobster...ended up with something the size of a crayfish. They sat us in the lobby...no candle, no silverware, just an empty table right by the front door..and we had reservations!! Main course was cold, service was really slow, so slow we had to ask for our desert to go.
boooo!!!! never again.
Unbelievably ridiculous & horrible service!

We went to Opal last night to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. I was sitting in the bar with a couple of friends and had just ordered sushi. The waiter, up until this point, has been super nice and fun. A friend of mine joined us and asked the waiter for a menu and the waiter gave him such a hard time that it was beyond ridiculous! All my friend did was ask for a menu and the waiter accused him of being an $#&%$@ because he (the waiter) is gay, hands flailing in the air, going off about how my friend does not appreciate his service and how rude it is. I was blown away by this as again, my friend did not do anything to provoke this.
The next few trips this waiter made to the table, he would still be super sweet to me, and my other friend that was sitting with me before the "offensive" friend joined us. When the waiter turned to my "offensive" friend, the attitude instantly changed and he was a $#&%$@ again. This was completely un-called for!
We hung out most of the night since my crew was DJing for the evening. I was hanging out by the DJ booth later in the night and that same waiter came up to me and started apologizing for how he acted but also tried to put blame on my friend. I then told the waiter "but he didn't do anything to you" and then he went off about how people need to understand his stressful job and they need to be nice to him and blah blah blah... I again said "but he didn't do anything to you" and he started to go off about himself again. I stopped him and said I really don't want to have this conversation and he threw a hissy fit and walked off.
I can't believe an establishment would hire a server like that! I'm still somewhat blown away by what happened as it was too weird and ridiculous to be real. We enjoyed our sushi and otherwise had a good time, but the service was effing ridiculous!
- Pros: happy hour is great, the hand rolls are phatty, chambord sake drinks... yum!
- Cons: A HORRIBLE SERVER NAMED CHRIS THAT NEEDS AN ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT!
Happy Hour OK - Bathroom like an open sewer

My wife and I went there last night for 5280 week. We got there a little early for our reservation to take advantage of the happy hour. The tiny sushi was good, but did I mention it was tiny? Same thing with our martinis. They might as well call the martinys. Tiny little martinis. I had 4 within 30 minutes and still couldn't cop a buzz. Looking down at the table with the tiny sushi and tiny martinis, I felt like a giant eating Tiny Town food. But enough about the food. The restoom literally made my wife sick. The stench from the women's restroom was unbearable. Having worked in many restaurants, I know what happens when the owner/manager "gives up" on the restrooms. They just don't care. And if they don't care about the cleanliness of the restrooms, what else don't they care about? The quality/freshness of the food? Even if I had my nose bitten off by an insane chimpanzee and couldn't smell, the restroom still appeared as if it hadn't been cleaned in months. Stains on the walls, floors and ceiling. Rust marks everywhere. Reminded me of a fraternity bathroom after a three day, 20 keg party. Do yourself a favor - seek sushi elsewhere.
- Pros: I didn't get sick in the restaurant
- Cons: Worst restroom ever
Terrible

So if you haven't been to Opal in a few months don't go back. We used to love this place. Good Asian food, good sushi. Apparentely they changed chefs or owners. The menu is aweful. they took off the Asian dishes and replaced them with cheeseburger and prime riba sandwiches. How weird! Sushi was not great either. I would not recommend it!
Worst experience in Denver
by kmr7964
Things started out promising-I had heard about the great Happy Hour deals. That was as good as it got. Upon arriving to the table to take our drink order our waitress informed us that she had been drinking the peach sake all night and that it was delicious. We ordered sake and a beer. 10 minutes later she came back and mentioned something mumbly about opening a new box of sake, still no beer. 10 minutes after that she came to the table as another waitress was coming by. She informed her that she couldnt find her card and that she would have to take all her tables. The new waitress was clearly irritated, rolling her eyes and complaining to us. We placed our food order with her. She came back a few minutes later, as she had forgotten what we ordered and we also informed her that the first waitress must have forgotten the drinks. After waiting 30 minutes for drinks the waitress came back (still with no drinks) and said she would see if she could try and have the sake comped. My boyfriend said to her "I just want to make sure you were aware that the other waitress took our drink order more than 30 minutes ago" as it was clear there had been no hand off communication between the two. She snapped back "well its not my fault" and thats just the way it is. She continued to rant on and then stomped off. We left immediately. My boyfriend and I have have nearly 15 years of experience working in restaurants and consider our expectations reasonable. This was the worst experience ever.
Don't eat here - yuck
by allyko
in fact, don't even drink here. Even if it's close to home, the only place open, and you're desperate - I would still avoid. Is this even a real restaurant/bar, or just a front for some illicit racket in the back room? Ewww...
