Don't bother
by denver native
There are too many resturants in Denver to eat at this place. Our waitress was rude and had no knowledge of the food on the menue. The food order was wrong and she had to be reminded t fix it. I had to ask for sharp knives to cut the meat. She didn't ask if we wanted desert,or coffee. When I complained to the hostess she said if the manager wasn't too busy she maybe would be able to talk to me. I have had better service at Taco Bell.
- Pros: food is ok
- Cons: worst service
Great Date Spot
by mbomb
This is a great date spot because it has a small atmosphere and there are quiet places to sit and stare into your lover's eyes. Great food, drinks and staff. Ther service is great and the cooks are awesome! Your food gets out fast and is always done right!
I just can't enough of this place!

It looks small from the outside but the place is actually huge! I didn't realize until someone pointed out that there is another bar upstairs along with pool tables and jukebox. I had no idea. Hanson's offers the usual burgers, sandwiches and the like. They also have some tasty dinner specials. I had a seafood stuffed trout served with an herb cream sauce. I was in heaven! My dining partner always squirms and cries that she "hates fish". I begged her to try some and she could not believe how great it was. One of pros of Hanson's is that they do have a parking lot. It is small but lots of times you can get lucky. Also, being a little north and out of the congested Sushi Den part of South Pearl Street there is often street parking available. I love the place and can't get enough. Its also a great place to hang out and have some drinks with friends. They have happy hour that seems to go on forever so drinks are pretty cheap. Hanson's has a great feel to it, I am from Chicago and it reminds me a lot of neighborhood bars back home. See you there!
- Pros: exceptional food for neighborhood hangout, parking, cheap drinks, free pool
- Cons: can get busy on certain nights
good drinks and food

I like to go to hansens' when i'm in the area - great for a stop from the lightrail. The bartenders are friendly. I've never had a problem with poor service. The patio is awesome and the food is delicious. The only thing I haven't liked is the hummus and one time the french fries were cold. - but I just asked for fresh ones with no problems. Happy hour is good and they have a good selection of late night food. The upstairs has pool tables and a bar and bathrooms - good for a group. The place seems to attract a mid 20's- early 30's group and then an older upper middle class crowd - a little more upscale than your standard neighborhood bar.
- Pros: affordable, good food
Service is terrible. If you are not a regular don't bother

I'm from out of town. I had visited Hanson's while in Denver once before. The food was good but the service was slow. I chalked the slow service up to the large crowd.
Today I returned to Hanson's early thinking I would beat the crowd. I was pleased when I arrived to see vacant tables, but was told by the hostess that there would be a 5 minute wait to let the wait staff catch up. After a 10-15 minute wait and no further contact, a couple walked in the door, didn't wait for the hostess as the sign requested, went to an empty table and were immediately seated by the hostess while my party and I were still standing at the door. Such service is not only poor it is impolite. I can only conclude that if you are not a regular recognized by the hostess you will not be treated well. I left without being seated and shall not return.
- Cons: Very poor service.
Going Downhill...

We had frequented Hanson's every couple weeks for a long time. No longer though. Too bad as it is in a ideal location for us. Service is nearly non-existent. Be prepared to wait, and wait, and wait for a drink, and even longer for food. Plenty of choices around in the neighborhood, Hanson's does not deserve your time or money. The 'one' star is based on good location, for us anyway. Good bye Hanson's, bummer.
- Pros: location
- Cons: everything else
Terrible customer service
by mulligan111
We have been there several times because we keep thinking it will get better for some reason. The food is pretty good when they get it right. However, every time we've been there ( 5 or 6 times) they have never gotten our order right. The woman dressed in black ( always) who greets us is very nasty. She doesn't even smile. We have had to wait and wait and wait... Then, the order is cold or not right. I guess it is about time we not go there. too bad because the patio is nice.
- Pros: Nice patio
- Cons: Terrible service, order is always wrong
Love it, love it, love it.

This place is in my neighborhood and of my other choices in the neighborhood would have to be my first choice. It is a great place to meet friends for drinks but the food is surprisingly good. I think a lot of people might think that it is just a bar but the restaurant of Hanson's is excellent. I love their stuffed chicken breast. It has the best sauce on it. I try to eat only half so I can save some for later but I usually end up eating ALL of it. The have an excellent happy hour. It always seems like it is happy hour there with some sort of drink special. I have always had very pleasant service when I have been in. I have taken grandparents for lunch and dinner here and partied with my friends here at night. They have a lounge type area upstairs with a whole other bar and sofas and some pool tables and jukebox. Plenty of tvs so you can watch the games. Overall cool place with awesome food and good drink specials, nice and friendly staff what more can you ask for?
- Pros: Everything is good
- Cons: usually a good idea to make reservations on weekends or with a large group,
TERRIBLE
by bellapoulin
I wanted to take my boyfriend out for a nice "date night" to celebrate the holidays. Hanson's seemed like just the right place. I couldn't have been more wrong.
As soon as we walked in, the hostess sat us with what seemed to be a seething hatred. The menus were tossed down on the table and she grumbled as she walked away. (This also happened to all tables seated around us as well.)
The waiter took about 10 minutes to arrive, and had the personality of a wet mop. He could not have possibly cared less about service. We ordered two glasses of wine and the calamari, only to be told 10 minutes later that they were out of calamari.
Disappointed, we ordered the bacon Gorgonzola dip, which was the only good things about our experience. In the middle of a romantic toast the water girl decides to stand awkwardly beside us and ask if we need more water!!! Talk about ruining the moment. I was appalled.
Food was ordered, and it was terrible. My b/f had the sirloin and I chose the apple glazed pork chops.
The sides were sauteed vegetables and potato.
The baked potato was about four days old and came out without a being cut, or any butter or sour cream.
The vegetables tasted like undercooked white onion and gave me a stomach ache.
The pork chops were over grilled (charred), as was the steak.
Then, as a final problem, the check was wrong which causes us to look ridiculous as we itemize the order with the waiter.
This restaurant is horrible. The food is mediocre. The service is terrible.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.
- Pros: Parking
- Cons: Service, food, hostess, personality
Wonderfully Good Food and Fantastic Prices! Wonderful Staff At No Extra Charge! Only Place with Parking on Pearl St.

This is a restaurant that I have grown very fond of. This is not your corporate run formulated restaurant. This is a comfortable place where everyone does know your name. The food is wonderful and I would rate the spinach artichoke dip appetizer the best in the city! (and believe me I am a true connoisseur of the concoction!) Their Monday and Tuesday Burger nights are the best in town. Where else can you get a $5 burger made with quality beef? For lunch they offer 4 daily soups. Their soups would make the Soup Guy from Seinfeld nervous they are so good. This is a great all around place for food and libations. They offer friendly service and great dinner and lunch menus. The bar part of the restaurant is a lot of fun as well. It always seems to be full of interesting local characters. I have been there several times on my own and have always managed to be a part of the crowd by the end of the night. The bar tenders seem to truly enjoy what they are doing and they strive to make you feel comfortable and welcome. If you come to this restaurant a few times, you will get that Cheers feeling too, and everyone will know your name.
- Pros: Only parking on Pearl Street, Friendly Service, friendly comfortable atmoshpere
- Cons: You might become a regular
