Classy and relaxing

We enjoyed a lovely happy hour at Harry's last night after hitting an afternoon matinee. We had shrimp cocktail and a few speciality drinks. The shrimp were large and of good quality and came with a tasty cocktail sauce (as opposed to the kind that tastes like ketchup). Between the three of us we had a lemon drop, a sidecar, an (intercourse-silly Citysearch editing) in the city, an orange crush (I think), and a Colorado bulldog. All were sophisticated and elegant, served up martini style. We did not care for the (bleep! naughty word!) in the city which was so sweet that it crossed the line into cloying but if you like a very sweet drink then that is the one for you. True, the drinks are not cheap. But they are quite strong so not to worry, you get plenty of booze for your buck. At any rate, it isn't the sort of place you go to down a ton of drinks and get very drunk and loud. It's more of a place to enjoy a civilized cocktail with a few good friends and still be able to walk in a staight line when you leave. The decor was the most fun. I agree with the 1950's Vegas lounge characterization. Lots of mod geometric shapes and reds/oranges. Very clean-looking and very chill. The only thing that annoyed me was the huge flatscreen TV which I thought detracted from the look and feel of this smart little place. It isn't meant to be a sports bar. But overall, loved it. Will definitely be back.
- Pros: Perfect atmosphere for conversation, sophisticated drinks, fantastic decor
- Cons: Downtown paid parking, please ditch the flatscreen TV
The drinks are pricey, but the digs are divine at Hotel Magnolia's stylish bar.

In Short
The first thing that sets Harry's Bar apart is the decor. Late-'60s Vegas-mod is the theme, yet the expert design gives the joint a timeless opulence. The crowd is diverse, including virtually every demographic over the course of an average night. Live weekend jazz and good drinks make the higher prices almost negligible.
FINALLY!

Finally, a classy small bar in a hotel that is also a good afterwork, good singles, and good live music place!! Best thing yet - NO SMOKING! (My lungs and eyes thank you!!!) Drink prices are average but drinks are good. The place is small and decorated in a 50's style that is VERY vintage! Great bartendars (well, except for the one that didn't know what "over" meant...OK, he's young...) and waitresses.
Great live Jazz music. GREAT crowd of upscale, younger professionals mixed in with a few older Jazz appreciators and tourists. I will be here every time I'm in Denver!!!
- Pros: No Smoking!, Decor, friendly staff, Good crowd! Music!
- Cons: Educate the bartender, wish it were bigger
