Meet me on the patio!!!

by brendah27

-To me, summer means kicking back on a patio the second I get off work. i find myself making my way over to Tavern Uptown 2 or 3 out of 5 times. They've got a really great happy hour and it lasts till 7 which is longer than most places. And how cool is it that they have a big garden and a fish pond by the patio! Definitely not your typical gross bar feel.

  • Pros: Best patio in Denver
  • Cons: It can get really crowded

My Home Away From Home

by mattyrocket

I moved to Denver about a year ago from Chicago, and one of the first bars I came to was the Uptown Tavern. It reminds of some places I used to go to back home, but also has a very Colorado feel to it. Best Things about it: PATIO and mini-bowling. Hands down. The happy hour is a good deal too. One down side for some is that it gets pretty packed, but I'm very social so I don't mind that. I've just had some co-workers that weren't about it. Fish tacos are amazing too. Definitely a place to check out.

Kobe sliders are the best in the city!

by bgishwiller

Not to brag, but I'm a conneissour (sp?) of Kobe sliders and the ones at Tavern Uptown are A-mazing. You can't just have one. I order them every single time I go. My other favorite thing is the guacamole which you can tell they make fresh. I only live a mile away, so this is one of my hangouts and has been for about 3 years. My only suggestion is they put little plaques on the bar (I saw this somewhere before) with the names of all the regulars. I'd definitely be on there!!

  • Pros: Great food and atmosphere

Lots of smokers, small menu, terrible service

by orangeade

I took a friend visiting me to Uptown on a Wednesday night. It was a nice night and wanted to catch up with her on the outside patio over dinner and drinks. There were tons of smokers on the outdoor patio making the "enjoyable evening" experience not so great. Since the patio area is an enclosed space, it is even worse.

It took about 10 minutes for a waitress to acknowledge that we had sat down (it was seat-yourself). We ordered drinks and water, and had to ask multiple times before the water actually appeared.

I didn't remember the menu having so little choices. There is ONE vegetarian entree, and that was a boring Boca burger. The food was quite average - my friend ordered a chicken/pasta dish that she said was "alright".

We sat for the rest of the evening - 45 more minutes - with empty drinks glasses and our empty plates in front of us. The waitress walked past us many times without acknowledging that perhaps we wanted more water / drinks / dessert / plates cleared out from in front of us. The table next to us received service while we were ignored.

I took my friend to this place as a treat in "the big city" and must say I am disappointed that Denver didn't provide a better experience. It's unfortunate that I won't be going back because it is convenient a, but this place does not deserve the business. Go to one of the other restaurants on 17th like Vine Street Pub instead.

  • Pros: nice patio, but ruined with smokers
  • Cons: smokers, terrible service, one vegetarian option

Awesome Service

by UptownJoe

I stopped by Uptown tavern on a sunday night and had the best service anywhere. Sam our waitress was awesome on checking in on us. We actually sat down and had 4 servers stop by to ask if we were takin care of. One girl was bringing us are drinks, another making sure we had silverware, the manager Danielle even brought out our food. Probaly some of the best teamwork i have ever seen in the service industry. The best part is that I was with my dog and allowed to sit on the patio. This place is a must go. I live in the neighboorhood and have found my new hang out. Keep up the awesome work guys, I definetly will be visiting again.

Great Happy Hour

by rockinrobb

I come to this bar after work several times a week with co-workers for happy hour. The place usually gets pretty packed, especially out on the patio. So far this summer with the great weather this seems like it's the best place to be. Their happy hour is two for one, so you can't go wrong with that. i'd recommend this place as a great after work watering hole.

  • Pros: Happy Hour
  • Cons: It ends at 7pm

Same ownership as Downtown Tavern, and just as lame.

by tootsie2204

You can definetly tell that this tavern is under the same management as the downtown tavern, which seems fun until you are approached by a bouncer/staff member for some absurd reasons. They tried kicking me out by physicall putting their hands on me when the bar was closing, yet the bar was still so full that you could not even get through. Why pick a young lady to attempt to throw out, while your bar is still full of drunk people who may actually need to be the ones getting kicked out. And bouncers are NEVER supposed to touch patrons of the bar, as any idiot should know, except these meat-brained losers who could never amount to anythin othere than picking fights for a living.

I will not be going back to the Taverns (either one), as neither have proven themselves as a place where the staff stays out of the way instead of constantly picking fights for no apparant reason. Especially when there are plenty of other bars around this area that have no attitude problems.

  • Cons: Part of the Tavern Family of bars/restaurants

Great bar if I can see it through the haze

by bezgirl

My fiance and I live just a few blocks away from the Uptown Tavern, so we often go there. It doesn't matter if it's a Sunday, Tuesday, or Saturday night. It's always crowded. More times then not, we are forced to sit in the back where smoking is legal. The front of the bar is very nice & comfortable - if you can get a seat there. If you do have to sit in the back with the smokers, (and you most likely will be) you can make the most of it with mini-bowling and table-top-shuffle board in the game room, which is awesome!

Service usually pretty good, with a glitch or 2 every now and then. We were there the other day, (crowded of course and sitting once again in the back) and I ordered a Stella draft and Finace ordered a Miller light bottle. About 10 minutes later, we both received Miller Light DRAFTS. Whatever....we were so thirsty and hungry we let the beers slide and ordered our pizza right away. Our pizza came, and we had to wait another 5 minutes while the food runner had to get plates, silverware, and condiment basket. We also had to ask the food runner to have our server bring us another round.

BUT - that's the worst it's been.

As mentioned, we've ordered the Pizza there. The Chevy Pizza is amazing, and so are the Fish Tacos. In fact, as far as food goes, I give that part 5 stars. Too bad it's always so crowded. It would be better if the dining room in the back is non-smoking, but that will probably never happen, as it seems that every smoker in Denver (all 300 of them or so) spend all their time there.

Of course we will continue to go there. It's a great bar. Just be aware of the crowds and potential cancer.

  • Pros: Location, food, drinks, front bar
  • Cons: Back bar, smoking, crowds

Great Place

by elwayyy

I saw a few poor reviews of the place and thought I'd set the record straight. This is a classy, nice , fun place with people of all different ages. It also has a great patio. It's staff is top notch, attentive and attractive, of course the service is better or worse depending on the crowd anybody who does not realize this has obviosly never worked in a bar or restaurant. The bad reviews could happen at any bar. -See not served because my boyfriend was maybe drunk or slow service(can happen anywhere on a busy night). These people who write poor reviews based on 1 inncident are idiots.

What the hell are they talking about????

by kdog4

I have been going to the Tavern for 2 years now for trivia and I love this bar. The management and waitstaff are always friendly and very attentive. During busy times, if our server is busy, the staff there really work as a team to help each other out with their tables. I have lived in Denver for 8 years and this is one of my favorite bars. I look to City Search for reviews on places I would like to try out and I would hate for someone to not go to the Uptown Tavern based on the sh*t written below.
