I live downtown. I work at the Brown Palace as a bartender, and am very familiar with the industry. I also frequent many of the bars downtown, but I have yet to try the Red Square until a few nights ago. I had heard they serve many infused vodkas, and Baltica which is a beer that is hard to find in Denver. My wife and I decided to have dinner to check out the Red Square. Wow. Big mistake. We arrived at the restaraunt, which from the patio, appeared to be crowded and busy. (there were young children running around). While my wife waited outside, READING THE MARQUIS OFFERING THE NIGHTLY SPECIALS, I went inside to request a table. A man that appeared to be very drunk approached me and said, "you can't be in here". I had no idea who he was and i assumed he was a parton of the bar that had too much to drink. I walked into the bar, and the bartender asked me what I wanted to drink. The bartender looked casualy dressed, like a friend of somebody, he was waering no uniform, obviously not a person that worked there. No sooner had I opened my mouth, than the same man approched me (he was extremely intoxicted might I add) and told me, in exactly these words,"Get the F*** out. I own this bar." I was shocked that the owner of a restaraunt would actually say something like this to somebodyy that walked in off the street, bringing his wife out for a special evening, wanting to spend his money for a quality meal. He repeated "Get the FU** out. This is a private party." My wife was standing at the patio, saw the entire thing happen, (could see that I was visially becoming angry) and walked in to grab me so we could leave. After we had left, she told me that the people on the patio were extremely rude and harrassing to her while she waited for me. If a bar is closed, why would they leave a sign outside advertising their menu? Isint there a law in Denver against CLOSING YOUR BAR TO THE PUBLIC AND ILLEGALLY SERVING ALCOHOL? VERY UNPROFESSIONAL.

Pros: NONE

Cons: Very unprofessional

My boyfriend and I love this place. We have been there three years in a row for Valentine's Day. The menu is a bit small, but we haven't had a bad dish yet. The steak stroganoff sounds like a weird idea, but trust me- it is fantastic. In addition, the service is always good. On a side note, I have found coupons for this place (pay $50 for a $100 coupon) so search the internet to find them as they are worth it!

Pros: great food

Cons: small menu

I chose this place because it looked interesting, but the service was so bad I didn't stick around One thing that really bugged me about it was I had to ask for more vodka and the bartender acted like he was doing me a favor by serving me. When I got up to use the restroom I came back to my seat at the bar and the bartender had piled up dirty glasses and dishes in front of my stool and made no effort to move these as I sat back down, so I drank my vodka quickly and left. I headed over to 1515 on Market and was treated like a king there. Too bad I really like the horseradish infused vodka but I doubt I'll go back, the service was so bad I didn't bother to try the food. After reading all the bad reviews here it doesn't sound like I missed anything.

The Red Square is a classy little "Euro bistro" tucked away in the corner of Writer's Square. All of their vodka infusions, especially the pineapple, are delicious!! They look and taste innocent but pack a p unch- they don't kick in right away, so watch out or you'll be stumbling home. These shots are best sipped, not shot! The setting is intimate and the crowd is relaxed and friendly. The Red Square is a gem!

Pros: Ambiance, vodka

Cons: Pricey

Dined here for restaurant week. The selections look fabulous on the menu. I agree with a previous reviewing, the front Desk fella was indeed less than friendly. Our waitress was adequate. We went with wine instead of vodka and the glasses were small. I chose the seared scallops and the centers were cold. My co-diner went with the mushroom and onion soup and you could actually see the grease. We decided to each get a different entrée and split them. She did the NY strip, I did the salmon. The steak was overcooked and chewy, the salmon was ok, but whatever sauce was on it smelled BAD. The berry desert was tasty. All in the food left every much to be desired. I might go back for the flavor infused vodka, but probably would just go to Purple Martini if I was over in that direction of town. I’d save your money and find some place else to eat.

Pros: Very cute location, ambiance was great

Cons: food was sub-par

We were disappointed. The menu had some interesting plusses - the borscht was very good and the lemon tart for dessert was okay (almost too tart). The main entrees were both over salted and over sauced, not to mention that I ordered duck and received chicken, and it was left on the bill. It's a cute atmosphere though, & the waiter was very nice in spite of the screw up, but overall it just fell short of expectations.

Pros: jazz music, some neat traditional Russion dishes

Cons: use of salt in the food - overkill

My boyfriend and I where out on a date night and decided to try something new. We had read good things about The Red Square. The atmosphere was cozy and the service was friendly. The servers where celebrating Russian Halloween as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. I love the idea of individual carafes of vodka from around the world, and our server was fairley knowledgeable and helpful when it came to makeing a selection. The vodka was very good. We ordered the cheese selection, which did not come with enough bread for the cheese portion. I found that the entrees where equally as disapointing. The Strogonough was gloppy and overwelming when paired with the steak, and the sea bass was salty. The swiss chard felt tough and overwhelmed the flavor of the dish. Fotunatly enough the prices where reasonable., so I only left with a bad tast in my mouth and not a hole in my pocket.

Pros: Vodka Selection

Cons: Food

I was introduced to it last fall by my boyfriend. Depending on which side of the restaurant you choose to sit, you get a completely different experience. The left barside is a lively vodka bar and on the right side dining area you experience a small Russian bistro. I love the salmon stroganoff, the mustard based salad dressing, and the wonderful bread. Oh, the vodka selection is amazing when you are in the mood for a good vodka shot or an entire carafe of vodka to share. I really love the Red Square, is is delicious, romantic, and lively.

Pros: Wonderful food, vodka bar, the bread is amazing, service is wonderful, very romantic

My husband and I just moved to LoDo, and were anxious to try Red Square, as we walk by it all the time. So we made a reservation, and as soon as we walked in the door, we knew we had discovered a special place. The staff was courteous and professional without being stuffy, and they were all smiling and happy--a sign of a good restaurant in my book. We had heard about the house-made flavored vodkas, so we started our meal with shots of raspberry vodka: delicious! As for the food, for appetizers I had the goat cheese and tomato salad, the perfect combination of fresh tomato and warm, comforting goat cheese drizzled with balsamic dressing. My husband had the scallops, which were seared to perfection and came with artichoke hearts and crispy garlic. We had a tough time deciding on our entrees, as everything on the menu looked good. I finally chose the salmon, and my husband went for the duck. Our waiter helped us pick out a great bottle of wine to go with our meal. My salmon was fabulous, and my husband enjoyed his duck, although it was bit rich and heavy for the hot summer weather. We were too full to order dessert, but the table next to us had a lemon tart that looked amazing--we can't wait to go back and try it! The only negative thing we experienced was that toward the end of our meal, the bar started to get quite full and noisy--it was a Friday night, after all, but if we had made our reservation for earlier, that wouldn't have been a problem. Overall, we had a great meal with great wine, and didn't cringe when the bill came; everything was very reasonably priced. We will definitely go again!

Pros: Good food, good prices

Cons: Rowdy bar crowd

My wife and I are new to the city. Many people recommended the food of the place and everytime we walked by it had a crowd. They seated us in the patio and brought old, hard bread. We ordered wine by the glass. It was very vinegary, couldn't finish it. And finally, the steak stroganoff (supposedly a specialty of the house). The cut was not good. Full of fat and very hard. Bad experience. We are not going back ever again

Cons: Everything is bad

Where to Sit

When the weather is nice, opt for the private patio. It's tucked back in Writer Square with a view of passers-by, instead of drivers-by.
