Tasty vegetarian option
by m1m2m3m4 at Citysearch
I believe this is the first review I've ever written, but I think it would be a good idea for me to chime in. Like the last reviewer, I'm a vegetarian. Given his review, I called ahead to ask whether Red Tango has any vegetarian options, and the man who spoke with me assured me that they did. So ... we went for dinner, and I had very tasty Anaheim chilis stuffed with butternut squash, with a side salad, asparagus, and rice. There was one other vegetarian entree option, and my husband and I shared three-cheese empanadas as an appetizer. The man I spoke with also told me that they do at times change their menu, which may be why the last reviewer and I had different experiences. If you're a vegetarian, your best option might be to call and see what vegetarian options are available on the day you're thinking of eating at Red Tango.
Decent food but unmemorable
by snowcrow at Citysearch
Reading reviews we had high hopes for this restaurant. Found the menu schizophrenic---sort of Italian (ravioli stuffed with cheese and beans), sort of Mexican (potato cakes and shrimp with the the mundane topping of shredded lettuce, tomato, green chiles, and salsa on the side--yawn!), sort of ....what? Maybe "South American" is a run-of-the-mill combo of different cultures' food. I really don't know. But nothing stood out---besides a very dense, rich, delicious flan---as a memorable dish. Certainly, not for the prices charged. A ho-hum, salty lamb stew special tasting a bit "bourginon" for $23 dollars. If you like safe food, by all means check it out. You won't be surprised and the service is really good. If you are looking for a fresh palette of flavors..... keep looking.
- Pros: Great service, delish flan
- Cons: unmemorable dishes, overpriced
Quirky, tasty, great!
by JohnnyDanger at Citysearch
This place is definitely worth the trip to an off the beaten path area of Wheat Ridge. It's a quirky spot, but the owners have done a great job of splitting up an old strip mall into a labyrinth of dining rooms.
Our server was great. He really treated us warmly and like family, and gave great recommendations. I forget the name of my wifes dish, but is was basically an awesome hash of potatoes with well seasoned steak on top. It was a latino comfort food wonder. Our starter of ceviche was one of the better we'd ever had, and was almost a meal unto itself.
This is a new favorite, will be back often.
- Pros: Warm service, food, quirky layout

Copier of Sabor Latino
by qazplmwsxokn at Citysearch
Jose was an ex employee of Sabor Latino which is a few blocks away. Jose worked for Sabor Latino for many years as a trusted waiter but he quit from Sabor. Then he opened up a restaraunt with the same Latin food with many of copied recipies. Please do not eat there come to Sabor for the real South American food. Don't support Jose.
- Pros: Best Liar
- Cons: Everything
Red Tango is not for Vegetarians
by ovolacto at Citysearch
I am pleased that so many people have so many nice things to say about this place, but they do not reflect my experience even after giving them two chances. For one thing, vegetarians need not walk through the doors. There is nothing vegetarian on the menu. Of course, they offer to "make" it vegetarian for you, but my experience is they just pick the meat off of a meat oriented dish, charge the same price and expect vegetarians to be happy. That, in and of itself, is not the reason for my poor rating. I can overlook that and know to stay away. I can even overlook the dirty parking lot and the sloppy dining room. There are some things, however, I cannot overlook. For example, on my final visit, there was a bottle of wine on the menu offered as "On Special". Yet, when I ordered that, it was not available. OK, I can see running out, but that was not the case. There were several wines listed that were not available. Diners need to know this when looking over the list and before selecting. Also, despite the claims of excellent service, I got crappy service both times. I suppose the good service is reserved for regular customers, mayors and celebrities. Our server was a slow as genetic change and forced us to find the manager for our check or go to the car for our sleeping bags. I have nothing against this restaurant, and I am pleased with their success, but it is not for everyone and especially not for vegetarians.
- Pros: Plenty of free parking
- Cons: Totally meat-oriented cuisine
Terrific Neighborhood Spot
by snicson at Citysearch
No kidding around, this is the place on the West Side. A simple but well assembled wine list focused on the excellent wines of Chile and Argentina will set off your dining experience. South American influences dominate this eclectic menu and will not dissapoint. The staff are attentive and prompt without losing a sense of fun and whimsy. We love this joint!
Consistently good food and service

Our family and friends have dined at Red Tango numerous times over the years and we've never been
disappointed. We are greeted warmly by the host/owner and his wife and have never waited more than 5 mins. for a table. Within minutes we are given homemade bread and/or homemade chips w/delicious salsa, depending on whether it's dinner or lunch respectively. I have to say that I've not been disappointed by any of my meals except one my son had, but that was an exception during all the times we've been here. The wine list has a nice selection which are unique and affordable and the servers are well-versed in which wines pair w/certain foods. In the summer, the cook will make his homemade soups with vegetables and herbs from his garden, and the salads are now larger and have a wonderful balsamic vinaigrette. Soup or salad come w/your meal, and there are daily/nightly specials. My husband had a rib-eye steak w/gorgonzola mushroom sauce w/veggies and a nice rice pilaf. Incredible!! My dish was potato cakes filled w/peppers, cheese, & onions w/a filet of salmon on top w/a homemade picante sauce. Very filling and enough to take home for a light lunch tomorrow. The desserts are top-notch, and almost always include homemade flan, something chocolate and a tres leches (3 milk) cake which is to die for. The owner's wife makes the latter dessert and it one of the best I've ever had. Cordials and liquors are available for after dinner and sometimes, the owner will surprise you w/a compimentary small glass of a liquor. Ours was a delightful orange flavored one. We've taken friends and relatives here and I celebrated my 50th birthday w/35 friends in the back room which was like our own private party. Red Tango is among our top 3 restaurants. Enjoy!
- Pros: Never a wait, plenty of parking, easy to get to, efficient, yet friendly service, waiters don't hover or rush you
- Cons: Ambience could be improved w/plants, low lighting, perhaps a swag over the ceiling to make it feel more intimate
Unique food, unpretentious atmosphere

My husband and I have eaten here before. We decided to take his mother, who was in town for a visit, to Red Tango for dinner as she is from a small town and appreciates unique dining experiences. We like Red Tango for it's delicious menu and unique dining choices - not your typical fare. It's spicy, delicious, and different. I forget the name of the dish, but it had tenderloin and potato pancakes and was very scrumptious. My husband had the special, it was some sort of spicy pork. My mother-in-law had the stuffed chilies and absolutely loved it. We really enjoy that eating here is unpretentious, friendly, and free parking! It's a bit of a surprise, hidden in a small strip mall in Wheat Ridge. And the food never lets us down.
- Pros: Unique food choices
- Cons: not a lot of ambience
Unique food experience....and in Wheatridge!
by michelelevine at Citysearch
I went with a friend during the week for dinner, so there weren't many other guests. The service was fast and server offered suggestions. I have been to plenty of restaurants that claim to be latin american, but they are really just expensive Mexican. The food was delicious and very latin american. We shared an appetizer, a salad and two entrees. Sometimes servers don't like having to bring extra plates for sharing, but they seemed to enjoy that we were having our meal together and sharing. It was a little more expensive than I would have liked, but you can't really get this type of food anywhere that you want. I would have to save this restaurant for special events because of the prices. This is the only reason that I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5.
- Pros: Unique food
- Cons: A little expensive
