Superb Specialized and Emergency Vet Care

by janewisnieski

I can't believe there hasn't been a review for VRCC yet. I and my animal family have sought care from VRCC several times for over five years. I intend to keep being a loyal client. Dr. Julie Martin (Cardiopulmonary) and Dr. Robyn Elmslie (Oncology), and their staffs, are expert and highly skilled, compassionate, patient, accessible, generous with their time, and on and on. Even when I haven't been there for a couple years, they know who I am when I and one of my furry kids comes in with a serious problem. The emergency vets have been thorough and efficient. Despite their obvious hectic (frenzied) work, Front Desk staff also remember me. If they don't, without question they treat me with the respect and concern due a known client. Front Desk staff also care about what is going on, either overtly or by handling me and my family with knowing wisdom and efficiency. It's a big place, but human touches make it comfortable and comforting. Because specializations are broken out into separate practise groups, one gets the experience of a smaller, more personal clinic. VRCC and the people mentioned in this review have provided terrific support, counsel, peace of mind -- which is critical when the time comes to end the suffering of a loved family member.

  • Pros: Thumbs Up All the Way
  • Cons: I can live with how large a facility and company (companies) VRCC is.

Overrated & overpriced

by Bobst

Spent $2000 on our cat at this place for a one-night stay. The only thing they did was give him an ultrasound and meds - then told us they'd have to do exploratory surgery for a few thousand more (at least). So we decided to euthanize. They said they would send us a clay sculpture with his paw print, which they never did. What a rip off! Would not recommend.

  • Pros: Great facility
  • Cons: Price

Best ER ever!!!

by CatLover1218

My cat was losing weight and urinating all over my house...I didn't know what to do! I took him to the Emergency dept. at VRCC...Dr. Rump and his technicians were SOOOO kind to me...they diagnosed my cat as being diabetic, showed me how to give him his insulin (they made me practice so I could do it at home), and gave me diabetic food to feed him. My cats are my life and this team of experts helped me figure out what was wrong! I will be forever grateful!

  • Pros: Caring Staff

very confusing

by rylie5771

We had many contacts with the VRCC system due to having a very sick little puppy. Initially our visits were to the emergency department. We felt like our care was very good during these experiences. When our puppy needed to see specialists though, our care became very difficult and frustrating. the different systems do not communicate and work together. The emergency department acts like a gatekeeper. They would take our money, do very little, send us home and we would come back with a sicker puppy. We would again have to pay the gatekepper to then be transferred to a specialist. Things were not explained well at all. When we shared our experience we were made to feel at fault. Our puppy had a consultation with a neurologist who recommended thoughsands of dollars of tests but would not talk to us so that we could ask questions and see if the tests made sense. We ended up having the tests done at Alameda East whose system was much easier to navigate. Our experince with Dr Wheeler (interist) was very good. Otherwise it was crazy making and felt like a business instead of a place that wanted to care for my puppy. Our beloved puppy lost his fight at 1.5years old just recently. he fought and we fought but in the end it was too much to overcome. he remains a very loved and special puppy to us.

Superior pet care

by GOlender

Ok, we may be a little over the top with 2 dogs and 5 cats, but we have the room and they all needed homes. What I'm pleased to know is that I can find boarded specialists in veterinary medicine just like I find for me. What I don't want to repeat is a tragic episode about 8 years ago when my ex-family vet pronounced a needed death sentance on my favoratie Irish Setter, without letting me know about VRCC's existence. I don't appreciate how they spent a couple thousand dollars on 'tests' when it clearly was a problem the specialists should have been seeing and moving toward treatment on in a much more expeditious manner.

Now I'm personally aware of veterinary specialties and can make that choice for these dear companions that are there at the end of my stressful days. Pet insurance policies stink, but at least I can get the care. If you search veterinary specialists in the US, you'll realize how lucky we are to have such a facility in Denver. But we all know Colorado rocks.

  • Pros: very advanced veterinary medicine in a wonderful facility. faster results than I get!
  • Cons: it's straight out of my pocket 'cause there's no good pet insurance or enough enrollees
